There has probably been somebody who has done a .070" over 427 BBC.

To do a 440 Mopar in a 3rd gen would require a certain level of mental instability.

That's funny.

OK-I'll help out. This link is the popular V8 engine dimensions. The way to use it is look at the engines you know fit and then compare to the engine you want to swap.I have raced Mopars and Fords before and you need to know the parts for anything other than Chevy cost lots more.

Re: 440 mopar engine swap into an 88 rs

I was into Chev'ys for years and then switched into Mopar and was in that camp for over 16 years...The Mopar engines are big. The 440 is wide and chances won"t fit. Forget any exhaust or steering. The oil pan is completely different. Not saying it can't be done..Better off picking up a 360 or 340...Properly put together these small blocks can make a tremendous amount of power and torque...My old 360 with 340 "stuff" was pushing near 400 and 350+ torque..Then there is the cost..mopar builds cost nearly twice as much as a Chevy build.....

Re: 440 mopar engine swap into an 88 rs

Curious as to the Mopar 440. Why not the GM 454/455? The '73 T/A 455 SD was a pretty radical car by anyone's standards. Also, the Can-Am McLarens of the '70's used the 454 and if memory serves correctly, were modified to 596 c.i.

probably cause its different, i like the mopar stuff alot myself and even have a 392 hemi id love to put in my iroc, the thing would flat out fly with the hemi but they are real costly to build

that 440 we put in the plymouth was prolly 25 grand just in the engine, but that car runs almost mid 9's with a crappy driver on pumpgas, and u can drive it anywere

I was already doing the camaro body with a frame ,full cage ,stockcar suspension and a curry ford 9 inch with yukon grizzly posi and 4.39 gears I found the 440 in an old pace arrow from original owners its a 1972 440 magnum with all forged internals and a 4 barrel only 60k miles on the motor bought it motor and 727 trans for 200.00$ i have had many old mopar's as a kid and always put the 440 in just love the sound and the torque besides why not be different

Re: 440 mopar engine swap into an 88 rs

Its not pretty yet just a quick mock up to do mounts and check fit steering and brakes worked easy had to shave some off the ac air box and flip sump on pan for crossmember with a fabed pickup tube. Probly going with 1 3/4 primary tube shorty headers have to fab next to meet up with the sidepipes. Have a 13 point roll cage in with .250 wall 1 1/2 tube and plan on puttin in major sub frame connectors also reinforcing the sub frames

Where there is a will there is a way I really like the camaro body style and now putting in the roll cage and moving the seat mounts way back the camaro fits so well

Sir its all ment to be fun I am a proud owner of an 88 RS and isnt this the engine swap forum guess I missed the part where you have to be mentally unstabel to put a mopar in a chevy although there are tons of ford 9 inch rears in them

Why would you do this when a ls3 would smoke it, and get better gas mileage and be less of headache to **** with. Yes it's thinking outside the box but it's just not smart.

89Rs454- Might I say, Chris is a good friend of mine and has alot of fab skills and experience when it comes to the 440. So messing with the 440 wont be that difficult. Now I am all for the LS SERIES motors because well good MPG and great HP per mod. But I feel you are very underestimating the 440. A stock LS3 will not have the slightest chance against the build Chris is doing. A built LS3 yes could hang but he plans on running low 10s high 9s. So you might want to retract your statement of a LS3 will smoke the 440. On that note I plan on possibly doing a LQ9 swap after my deployment.
