Dart SHP "Special High Performance Engine Blocks"

Hey guys,

I'm looking to build a 400 + C.I. SBC. I've heard a lot of good things about these blocks. If I did get one, do you know if it will be direct replacement for my L98? Is there going to be a place for my knock sensor, and have all the mounting holes for the accessories and grounds?

Thanks

Yep, i have one and its just like an OEM roller block except 2 piece rear main seal. Its a sweet block. I'm using factor hydraulic roller lifter retainers/spyder setup and front cam plate. Knock sensors can be fitted on either side of the block. Has passenger side dipstick like L98's but needs an 80-85 sbc oil pan.

cnc blocks northeast is where I got my motor from. 1799 shipped for a fully machined/blueprinted block.

Iroc, i've been looking into this same block for my engine build. Looks like a great block, decent price with high performance. I really like the main oil galley redesign. From what I have read, 420 is largest size you can go and still be on the safe side (4.155" bore and 3.875" stroke I believe). Max bore is 4.165" so gives you a little safety. You can go 427 or 434 with a 4" stroke but cams get small at that point. I don't think the extra 7 cubic inches would be worth the hassle. If you do get one soon, let me know! From your car pictures, I think you live near the same park my sister does

Orr, thanks for the feedback on Carl. I've read a lot of good things about him online. Just wish he would get his website finished. I am thinking off using him for block and rotating assembly. What's next for you, the little m or iron eagle?

Yeah his web is down but if you have his number he is more than willing to talk to you about your build. He was very helpful to me, even when I had questions on assembly, I called him up and he was quick to answer and gave me advice that I needed. I'd recommend him for sure.

For me i'm gonna push this block into the 8's and see what happens. Its probably gonna need more cam and head first to get there. If it fails, I have no idea where to go from here, probably big block with twins Maybe back to n/a but spin the heck out of it. If it holds, I guess my thirdgen will be "done". Time to start another project

Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty excited. What do you guys think about heads? I was thinking AFR SBC 210cc Race Ready Heads or AFR SBC 227cc Race Ready Aluminum Heads. I'm looking to build a bad *** mother.

Re: Dart SHP "Special High Performance Engine Blocks"

IF you stick with a 400-406" motor, 210's would be nice with a good hydraulic roller. I"d personally go for 220's. AFR is now making a street port 220 thats same price or so as the 210 race ready. Previously AFR only had the race ported full cnc option on the 220's. Its hard to overhead a 400+ inch motor

Or you can look into a package from Dr J's Performance / Chad Speier. They worked on the AirWolf series of heads... about 220 cc, with a big hydraulic roller around 250-254 degs I believe, on a 400" motor, they made 640 hp on motor on pump gas

A 420" motor with a decent solid roller and AFR 235's made 670's hp on 91 oct and 10.5 to 1 compression... You can make big power with the good heads and decent sized cam. I'd look at the airwolf combo tho, its a powerful hydraulic roller setup

How about a 400+ ci with a nice magnacharger or f series pro charger?
nice, drivable 650-750 hp!
