big block solid engine mounts?

i'm doing a big block swap on my 88 camaro. i decided to go with the solid motor mounts since the motor was obviously out. well the guy at summit said they were same height as the stock 305 mounts, and the guys on here who've done this swap use the stock 305 ones. for some reason the k member will not allow the engine to slide in. like the pan is hitting the k member. any ideas? thanks alot

Re: big block solid engine mounts?

The pan shouldn't hit the k-member with any engine mounts. Many times it's just hard to align the mounts to drop the engine down onto them. Take the transmission out if you have to then reinstall it after the engine is in place.

Re: big block solid engine mounts?

My last car was ended up a BB,this one eventually will as well.I remember pan clearance being tight, but I don't think the solid mounts are your trouble.
I'm betting that you have a truck style oilpan on your BB.WILL NOT work, learned that lesson the hard way myself. You need a Chevelle style pan,not the only car with this pan,but I know the one I used was off of a Chevelle.
Hope that helps.

Engine: 1970&92 Cams,both BBC's
Transmission: LS1 T-56 & PG w/vendor's
Axle/Gears: Built 10 bolt& 9inch w/spool
Re: big block solid engine mounts?

Are you sure your mounts are in the correct position? Your factory K-member should have two pair of mount holes, one pair for v-6 cars located aft on the member and v-8 cars located forward on the member. If its not set for the v-8, it'll only be off by a few inch's, but never fit.
