Nothing wrong with a 2 bolt main as long as you're not going to add any power adders. Even then, a simple main stud kit will make it stronger.

put studs in the mains, and ditch the peanut port heads!! get some brodix Race Rite ovals, or some AFR magnums! The first start to a badass big block is ditching the cast iron heads. they weigh too much. i personally will never use factory heads again for any small or big block build.

Re: 454 2bolt main worth it????

im thinking of stroking it to a 468 i want to build a motor that can hold nitrous..not really planning on spraying it all the damn time but would like that extra power if needed lol. and yes i wanna build a whole different motor out of that block some good flowing heads with a nice choppy powerful cam

a 468 is a bored out 454, not stroked. You might want to build a 489 stroker. 4.25" x 4.280" (.030" over)

if you want to run nitrous, build a 461 (.030" over), stock stroke. build a middle of the road motor, then let the nitrous do the work. that way you can put some decent money into some good pistons to handle the nitrous.

what kind of budget are you looking at anyways?

The BBC bottom end is TOUGH, even with a cast crank and 2-bolt main caps. I wouldn't worry about it too much... and if you do build something with some kinda stupid power level, then a 2-bolt block is the ideal place to start - you can have the block machined for splayed 4-bolt caps, which are considerably stronger than a factory 4-bolt setup.

Re: 454 2bolt main worth it????

We stroked my brothers 454 2 bolt main to a 496 with Scat and SRP internals and it is a very dependable engine(It also runs high 6's in the 1/8 in a 3700lb 2nd gen Camaro) He loves it. We plan on spraying it with a 100 shot next year but we wont do any more then that.

Mark.

Re: 454 2bolt main worth it????

Get the 2-bolt block, have it machined for 4-bolt splayed caps if you plan to go past 600hp, and you won't break it.
