blow up 305 carbed to a 350 carbed
Hey, Im new here and i just bought my first 3rd gen. I got the car and it ran fine but i started it the other day and now it has a lifter noise. I just want to swap the 305 for the 350. I have an 87. I am kind of worried about the ecm stuff because their are something connected to the heads. and i was wondering if the 350 would drop right in or is their some stuff i have to change around. Basically i just need some help on the complete swap. Maybe if someone knew the best motor to put in it that would be great thanks!

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
Any details on the 350? Are you saying it's an '87, or your 305 is, or both?
It's possible the 350 will bolt in place of the 305, but there may be details involved, depending upon the model year of each. So, if you can get that information to us, it would help answer your questions.

the car's an 87 along with the motor. It's carburated with a 4 barrel q jet. the model's a berlinetta sport coupe. I believe thats it.

i was wondering if a 355 or 350 would just slip right in and i could use a lot of my old stuff or if their is anything i have to change. And i was wondering if i could get rid of the smog stuff hooked up to the headers

Sorry, yes, any '87-'95 350 would slip right in (except '92-up Vette and '93-up Camaro/'Bird). All your stuff would bolt to it.

No. And aside from it being ugly, and adding about 3 pounds to the car, why would you want to remove it? It doesn't affect performance. Or mileage.

TBI actually continued until '95 in the pickups, and until '93 in the V8 third gens, while TPI wasn't even optional on the V8 RS Camaros ( except the b4c police package) base V8 Firebirds. TPI disappeared entirely after '92.

i actually ripped off the valve covers and found out only one push rod was bent so im just going to replace it seeing the motor only has 30,000 original miles. It was roller rockers to.
