First, read this: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...swap-read.html

$500 sounds either like a good deal, or somebody who doesn't know what they're up against.

Re: Planning On A Swap 3.1 To 350 HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, that guide about sums it up. I just did this swap in December myself. The guide covers it all, but I just wanted to clarify a few things that are not explicitely called out:

1) Your only belt accessories that will work are your AC compressor (but you will need new hoses for it), and your power steering pump (but it is easier to get a new one). The v6 alternator will not fit without significantly modifying the mounts (big difference between right side and left side bolt patterns), so just replace it. If your engine does not come out of a 3rd gen camaro/firebird, you will need to get the "engine front"/"serpentine setup" from a v8 3rd gen (305 parts fit the 350 no problem here). This setup should include at least the left and right side mounting brackets with tensioner, the bolts, and the power steering pump, unless you want to use your old one (its a pain in the a** and required a puller to remove the pulley from the pump). Also be sure to grab the pullies for the crank, water pump, and smog pump.

6) Not sure if it works in all applications, but my '91 3.1L V6 single fan radiator worked out fine

8) "Transmissions from 4.3 liter Chevy V6's will mount to Chevy V8's...." Transmissions from any other V6 WILL NOT work (wrong bolt pattern on the bellhousing), so plan on replacing it along with the torque convertor, as it will probably be the wrong stall speed for the new engine.

9) Your ECM *MAY* work, but you will at the very least need a new memcal for it. If you swap in fuel injection, do some research to find out if your ECM is right for the new engine, and what memcal is closest to your setup.

Side Note: Carefully take note of all of the sensors you will need for your setup. I rushed this part along with the wiring, and spent a lot of time troubleshooting wiring for my cooling circuit when it turns out that I actually forgot completely about the second temperature sensor. Also, keep track of the number of ground points on your wiring harness, as it may save you a lot of trouble trying to figure out later why stuff doesn't work (I reused my old V6 harness, and it had 4 total groung points in the engine bay).

Good Luck!

3.1's have the upper radiator hose going to the driver's side of the radiator, like the V8's do. So, they use the same radiator. One advantage of going from 3.1 to V8 rather than 2.8 to V8.

Like others have said, there is more to that swap than just the engine.
For about the same money as a swap you could probably hunt down a decent 3rd gen with a 350 already in it.

Just my opinion.
