v6 to v8 swap... that speed sensor

Hello all,

I have swapped my 1989 MASS AIR fuel injected five speed v6 for a 1990 SPEED DENSITY TPI 5.7 dual cat (I've tossed in a V8 5 speed from an 1984 camaro as well). Everything is done and the car is in storage except for one more thing. The speed sensor.... Now I have driven the car, breifly at best but it moves, very much quicker then before might add.
My only question is what about the speed sensor.... On the 89 it's in the dash, but the wiring harness and CPU is off the 90, which runs the speed sensor from the tranny and has a few more wires.....
Can I get a chip burnt to ignore the speed sensor? How will not having it hooked up affect the car? Should it be hooked up to get maximum performance? Can I use the 89 speed sensor? Will I have to make provisions on the tranny for it? (ie. get a tailshaft from a 90 or later tranny?) Any information would be helpful.
Thanks,
Charles Kent

I've seen refrences for a conversion box for speedo cable to electrical VSS signal. Tail housing might switch mohgt work, or jsut even better sell teh 84 tranny & get corrct yr range replacement.

Also, the 89 dash, the VSS sensor is stil on the tranny, the dash convets it for teh electronic speedo.

No I didn't switch the gauges, so far it seems to be working just fine.
And I had the v6 5 speed tranny off of my 89 and it did not have anything on it to do with a speed sensor. Maybe the v8....

If you didn't swap your dash out, then your tach will be off. I supppose you could try and find a way to convert the signal, but good luck with that. And when I swapped my '86 2.8 for a '91 305/700r4, I did need to swap out my VSS. But, I also needed to change the speedo gears in the 700r4, becase the Camaro RS's had a 2.77 rear, and my bird had a v6 3.42. So watch out for those. Good luck!
