went to carb...what to do with vacuum line for p/b

i switched over to carb and im running an edel rpm airgap intake and there is no place to put the line coming from the power breaks unit to the manifold. also if your running a rpm airgap and carb could you tell me what you did for hood clearance. thanks brad.

You need to T it into an appropriate vacuum port.

if you have an edelbrock carb, there should be a fitting on the back of the carb for your power brakes. on a Holley 4150 there is a port on the back of carb as well, or you can use the port on your intake manifold.

as for hood clearance, get a drop base air cleaner with enough drop, like the GM L88 cleaner, or get a different hood.

On an edelbrock carb there are two vacuum ports at the carb base for a 3-8" vacuum hose ( PBrakes and PCV)
one in the front one in the back.
one has a barb fitting, one has a pipe plug in it.
You can remove the pipe plug and install another barb fitting for another vacuum source.
A holley carb has only one big vacuum source for PB and PCV on the carb base. So you'll ned to get a 3/8" vacuum "T" and share the source for both the PCV and Pbrakes.
Do not hook the PCV or the PB's to the spot on the right rear manifold.

For hood clearance you will need a old L88/Z28 air cleaner base from a 60's 70's hi perf chevy.
You can use any typical 14" chrome aircleaner lid with it.
use a 14x3" filter element.
you will need a Edelbrock 1/2" plastic air cleaner spacer ring and a banjo style fuel inlet fitting for a edelbrock carb with this base.
You will need to remove the choke horn and shorten the bowl vent tubes on a typical holley carb.
With either carb you will have to modify a stock carbed motor's throttle cable bracket to lower the cable closer to the manifold to clear the lower carb base. ( a aftermarket throttle cable bracket may work better.)
If you are using a large cap HEI distributor you will have to cut a flat spot on the back of the air cleaner base to clear the larger cap. Small cap distributors clear fine.

may sound like a lot of trouble but far less and cheaper than a new hood and paint.
Will work great for any motor making 500hp or less.
Don't forget the choke horn mods.
The OEM holleys that came on the cars that used this aircleaner from the 60's had a lower choke horn height or no choke horn and "down leg boosters".
You can get a l-88 air cleaner base from

Noah performance

Clears with room to spare.
A good 1/2" additional clearance than any other typical aftermarket 14" air cleaner including K&N
has a much more complex shape and better airflow too.
(more power)
There is even enough room for a 1/2" nitrous plate there with this aircleaner.
