want to upgrade rear end
Hi guys,
I have a 1992 rs 305 TBI, all stock. I am looking to liven it up a little bit. I want to put 3.42 gears with a posi unit in it. Can someone please tell me approx. how much it would cost to do this? & maybe a list of everything I need to do the upgrade? & maybe some ideas who would be good to purchase the items from? I am not planning on putting in a bigger motor. I just wanna feel a good launch, & not spend a ton of money!
Thank you!
Wayne

Figure... $400-500 for a decent limited slip carrier. A couple hundred for a good gear set. Bearings, shims, marking grease, seals, gaskets, a crush sleeve, plus tools... Assuming you're doing the work yourself, and reusing stock axles, brakes, etc... Probably $700-1,000. More if you run into issues, or upgrade things like the cover, axles, wheel studs, etc. FWIW.

I kinda went your route, your 92 should have 28 spline axles vs older / weaker 26 spline axles.
I went with an Eaton Tru Trac differential and 3.42 gears (came stock on my 91 5.0 TPI 5 Speed)
Should be fine for a while on the street, not drag racing with slicks at the track with a ton of HP / TQ
