Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

I have a few of these in good, used condition. It is a bracket extension kit with exhaust brace to allow you to use a 124A or 140A 6" diam. case alternator to replace the smaller, 105A one. Asking $50 for it....dis-continued from GM and includes all hardware. I usually keep about 6 or 7 kits on hand for my own high output alternator swaps but I have more than I need at the moment. Great way to upgrade your charging system-will require a 1.5" longer belt.

Here's a pic of the bracket kit. It allows you to use a larger, 6" diameter case alternator. It mounts using the same holes as the stock alternator and relocates the mounting ears to 6 and 12 oclock. I have two of these kits available.

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

so with this you can install an LT1 style alternator or what alternator off of what application is a direct bolt in?

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

Not 100% sure if ALL LT1 alts are the same but I always use one for a 94-97 Impala SS for example. It's rated at 140 amps with a 6" case and has a 12 and 6 clocking....and the same plug for the regulator.

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

any idea if this will fit a 6.5 diesel ? my RV just blew the new alt that's on it .... I assume this will allow me to get AWAY FROM that crappy alt that dies when the voltage goes below 11 volts ??? that ALL TPI TBI cars seem to have ....

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

I'm not sure....if your 6.5 uses the same alt. or at least the same clocking mount, then I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. I can't say for sure since I've never seen one on a 6.5 stock.

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

Hmm...well, after doing some quick research, it appears the only difference between the 6.5 alt. And a reg. 105A one is the clock position of the plug. If that is the case, then I don't see why you couldn't use this bracket kit to let you go with a 140A alternator.....pretty cool.

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

that's about what I figured ... the back brace is probably wrong ... but I got a welder the alt itself looks exactly like a 1988 TPI one ...

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

the back and side braces are flat steel and I'm sure have to move ... I can add material to move them up ... but your bracket should solve it ... mine looks like it's clocked the same ... don't have my phone cord to download pics ....

These alts and brackets came on 88 through 90(?) something TBI caprice cop cars / taxis and HD service cars of that type.

Great upgrades!

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

I have steel brackets setup for it that does not have any issues like that. I have a GM alt. that has 124a stamped on its case....physically the same size as the 140a one I have on my truck. Hmmm...may not be an issue after I approve the steel ones I had routed to replace the aluminum ones. Knowing they are hard to find, I have 3/16" cold rolled steel brackets with offsets and ears that do allow up to 140a alts to be used. I'm using a Bystronic ExPert 150 press to form them. I should have the first ones available next week sometime.

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

124a fits like a glove ... which is why the 140 doesn't fit ... it's bigger and has 4 flat sides ... let me see if this fits my 6.5TD ... might up for a 140 bracket setup and put this on my chumpbird ...

Do you have any of the 140 amp brackets?

I'm currently layed up from a double hernia surgery for a couple weeks but I hope to get the brackets approved this week or weekend. Never had surgery of any type before this and it sucks!

How about the 124amp bracket?

Also is the 124 alt a big improvement over the stock 105? I'm having low voltage at idle in gear.

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

I did this swap a few years ago and had to do a little grinding but it was definately worth it. The bigger alternator cools itself better, has bigger bearings and my rebuilder built it where it puts out a ton at idle. The only downside to this upgrade is you cant run tall valve covers.

You can run tall valve covers-granted it takes a little work. I cut the corner off and inverted it and tig welded it in place to clear the charge post stud.

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

Hate to give you guys this information, but a AD-244 alternator for a 2003ish Tahoe will bolt right in place of a CS-130. I had a CS-144 on my Express van and went with a 200a AD-244 listed for a police Tahoe application. I put the CS144 on my 1980 Corvette that has a 1992 TBI 305 F-car bracket setup without any additional brackets. Just slightly modified the brace bracket which I had to do for headers anyway. The Express CS-144 is clocked at roughly 4 and 7 o'clock.

Wait what did you have to do? Bottom line, can that Tahoe alternator bolt right in with no mods?

Re: Scarce serpentine 140A alt. GM bracket kit.

In theory yes, but I haven't tried it on a F-car bracket. Bolted right up to a mid 90s CPI 4.3 Blazer and a TBI 350 truck however. Just have to pickup the right length bolts.

This CS-144 swap i found on here was my inspiration for the swap on the Vette. Also the AD244 Tahoe alternator was a direct swap for my CS-144 in my Express once the rear monting brace that is not used on the AD-244 was removed.

Like I said I hate to jump in like this but I a big fan of making things work as easily and cheaply as possible. Almost every CS-144 you run across would have to be reclocked to use the bracket as well.

OK so in picture one what alternator is that? Looks like a LO5. Did that require any modifying to the bracket?

The CS-144 is on a L98 and the AD-244 is on a L31 Express van. My CS-144 is now on a F-car serpentine setup..I unbolted the CS-144, removed the rear brace braket and bolted the AD-244 right on. They have the same mounting points and roughly same case diameter....The serpentine setups on F-cars were all the same on the V8s....L03 to L98...Mine is on a L30 in my 1980 Corvette. CS144 bolted right on just had to get the right bolts, some washers and matching nuts. I will try to rember to get a picture of it installed on the Vette when I get home. My mom just had knee surgery and I am having to help her around the house this week.

I thought the 144 needed grinding in order to fit

Not on the bracket I got from a 1991 Firebird L03. I did however have to rebuild the rear brace which I had to do for the headers anyway.
