87 2.8 injector problem

I have an 87 2.8L with an electrical problem. I’m assuming either bad injectors or bad ecm possibly. Injectors are not firing, I cheated a little and hardwired the fuel pump to the battery with my own inline fuse and switch to get it to turn on, is there any way I can cheat a little more with the injectors and be safe? I do intend to do a full engine harness replacement soon but I need it running for the next week. Previous owners chopped up the wiring on the firewall.

This is what I meant when I said it’s chopped up

Is the ecm powered up ? Have you used a noid light on the injectors ? How do they ohm ? Has this car sat for a extended time?

Im assuming the ECM has power because the idle air butterfly or whatever is next to the main butterfly, is opening on key turn but im not sure. the tags expired in 2013. i am more on the mechanical side and dont have much electrical experience, could you explain where / how to check with a noid light?

Well then your answer is a simple one; If the previous owner "chopped up the wiring on the firewall" your gonna have to put all that back right if you want to hear it run. If that, for you, involves "I do intend to do a full engine harness replacement soon" then by all means you'd best get to it, cause there is no "cheat" that's gonna run the injectors without the ECM being properly connected.

PS, just curious, have you checked this fuse yet? (you'll get no injector pulse or fuel pump action if it's blown or missing)

Re: 87 2.8 injector problem

a noid light gets hooked to a injector plug. You crank the engine and look for a pulse. If tags are that old more than likely the fuel system needs attention. Stuck injectors.
