Alternator Options...?
My 91 RS got a bad alternator it’s a 305 I got a alternator from a 2002 Chevy suburban with a 5.3L Vortec i bolted it on but the Connectors is different can I cut the positive feed wire from the truck harness and crimp it to the 3rd gen Harness and plug it in will this actually work ?
I never done it before but my elders told me it’s a old small block Chevy trick of the trade they used to do back in the day oh and my battery is brand new

I'd recommend you obtain a new or quality reman stock alternator and install it. it was good for millions of GM vehicles, why monkey around?

This Alternator was $30 and rock auto wanted $60 I choose the cheaper option that’s why I’m trying to make this work due to limited budget at this time
im starting to have second thoughts though...

if the suburban alternator you mounted is an AD244,there are a few threads on here about using those in 3Gs.

Everybody make mistakes. I wish you luck. FWIW, Rockauto is my first source on lots of parts. But on alternators, starters and sometimes waterpumps, I check locally also, because they usually have lifetime warranties and shipping one of those back, for an exchange is not something I would want to do.
Well, I just checked Orieley and they get $106 for a lifetime reman, considerably more than rock.

Ok so I hooked up the battery and have 12V constant on body harness red and key on 12v at tan. I hooked the tan body wire to the F terminal on Alt and started car and I'm getting 13.42V at idle. It's all been sitting for a week or 2 with no run time.
