1992 electric hatch moter polarity reverse switch
Lost interest in the bird and let it sit for about 5 years. Decided to get it running again recently and start driving it. it needed fresh gas, a full tuneup and had to replace replace a acouple rotten vacuum lines. Running great now but since sitting the electric hatch is not working.
I replaced the relay in the trunk and the one under the dash is clicking. I manually jumpered the relay connector under the dash to rule out the switch or 4 pin relay as the culprit.
I removed the polarity reversing switch and put power to the motor and I can manually power the unit up and down.
I tested the 3 wire switch that plugs into the polarity switch and senses whether the hatch is down or up and it works.
At this point i think the polarity reversing switch is bad. Can someone please tell me how to test this switch. Does anyone know how to disassemble this switch without messing it up and what goes wrong with them because i cant find a replacement anywhere.
Thanks

Take a look at this wiring diagram:

It sounds like you have decent electronics troubleshooting skills so you should be able to see what pins are connected in the up/down positions, but if you have trouble we can always give a step-by-step guide. I can't find much information about the 1992 switch so I can't say if it can be cleaned or not. I know on my 91 which had problems getting stuck I tried drilling out the rivets, cleaning it, and replacing them with small screws. You may also try contacting Lon from Top Down Solutions and see if he has one. I didn't see anything listed on his site but he might have one anyway. Or he may just show up in this thread; he tends to pop up on hatch motor related topics .

Re: 1992 electric hatch moter polarity reverse switch
Thanks for the link i did a fair amount searching on this topic but didnt find alot of info for the 91-92. I just want to make sure the switch is malfunctioning before i waste time drilling the rivets amd tearing into it. On a side note when i was playing around with it i found that if i manually power the moter up, flip the switch and put everything back together the motor will power down like its supposed to.
