92 firebird formula
I recently scored this 92 firebird formula and I noticed that the fuel gauge registers full at all times. I took the cluster panel off and did a visual, I didn't see any broken or missing wires from the harness or did I see any corrosion. I did come across two loose wires. A red and pink. Can someone please help identify these wires and where they should go I would greatly appreciate it. I been on this site for hours reading related trends. I find it very helpful. Tysm

Re: 92 firebird formula
HA. I figured it out after hours and hours of research . The pink wire does go to the fuel gauge I just didn't see it missing on the harness and the red goes to the fuel pump prime connector. This site was so helpful to me among others. So now I'm going to take the cluster out and see how I'm going to insert it back where it belongs

Re: 92 firebird formula
I have enclosed this wiring diagram of your fuel gauge to show you that the wire that controls your fuel gauge is a purple , and not pink wire .
When the fuel gauge sits past full always , it means either ;
#1 , the sending unit is bad (open circuit)
#2 , there is a break somewhere in the purple wire running from the fuel gauge to the sending unit
Or , #3 , that the gauge itself it defective .
By far the most common is that the sending unit failed , on a car with unbutchered wiring . Your wiring having been butchered by what looks like an unprofessional radio install , unless the butchery extended beyond the radio , still leaves the question open .
How to troubleshoot ? under the car you'll find a connector leading to the fuel tank that has the sender wire , the fuel pump wire , and ground wire . Unplug the connector and jump the purple wire to ground and with the key in the on position check to see that the gauge now shows past empty instead of past full . If this checks out , your sender is bad . If it remains above full , you've got an open circuit somewhere in the purple wire (or the gauge itself is bad) . Remember the gauge itself can fail but it's FAR more likely to be the sender or an open circuit in the sender wire . Also , all that red wire hanging out in your picture is part of the hack radio install and not factory wiring of the car itself .
Good Luck , and welcome to TGO !
