Fuel Pump Acting Up

Hi, I have a carbed 383 and have an in tank 255lph running off a stand alone relay wiring kit. the relay kit goes to battery positive with circuit breaker, 12v switched, ground and fuel pump positive. I have hooked the 2 wires going to the pump to the relay and ground and left the gauge wire intact.

My fuel pump has begun to act up. Yesterday it shut off mid idle and wouldn't come on again for like 20min. And now it stays on with key off after the car was running. Any ideas? This could be coincident but it started acting up after the alternator wire going to the battery fell off the alternator and grounded itself to the block.

Thanks

Re: Fuel Pump Acting Up

The fuel pump could be bad or your wiring could be bad.
If the key is not in the switched 12V on position then the pump should have no power and should not be running. That makes me think the wiring is at fault. Double check the relay energizing wire at the relay if it is really 12V switched. Next gently tug on all of the wires and see if they are loose in the connectors. Replace the relay since they are so cheap. Did you use a fuseable link or a really small ground wire?

Re: Fuel Pump Acting Up

I used the ground wire the relay kit came with, I also have a pump ground in the back. I think I figured out the issue. I found out my battery stud but was really loose. Hasnt acted up since
