Hatch pull down gear nut adjustment

Hey guys I have searched the forum for the past 2 hours and haven't found clear instructions on where the gear nut on the pull down motor needs to be. My old one was missing teeth and broke and in half so I have no reference point. I screwed it in to were it was flush with the stud end but the hatch doesn't close flush and it doesn't click when lowered all the way. it's a 92 rs camaro 5 speed v6 with t-tops if any of that matters. Thanks in advance.

9 to 10 turns of the nut on the shaft.
