Wiring Cleanup Questions

Hello! I own a 91 Camaro RS with a newly swapped 5.7 TBI and 5 speed. As you can imagine, the previous owner, just like almost all POs, thought they were skilled techs and got busy wiring things up in the strangest of ways. My OCD is taking over, and I'm beginning to clean it all up and properly splice the wires.

I am well versed in electronics, just not automotive, and have several questions.

1. The previous owner bypassed the key ignition in favor of a push button. I enjoy it, the issue though is how it was done could be improved. He used solid core wire in a rather thick gauge running from the hot terminal on the starter solenoid, across the firewall into the dash, to a VERY cheap plastic button, and back out to the needed small terminal of the starter. This left a line of red and blue solid wires along my bay.
-where can I source power thats under the dash? I heard that little terminal doesnt need a crazy amount of power to engage, where would work?
-what gauge of multi strand wire would you recommend for this? not sure on power draw once again, just dont feel that solid core housing wire is really needed.

2. The hatch pull down switch. When I got it, it was inoperable. I replaced it, and it works fine now, but needs the key to open. When I pull the little button on the console, the red brake light on the dash illuminates, even if the Ebrake is pulled and the car is in neutral.
-How can I figure out where the issue is?
-What wire coming from the pull down unit dictates the release? I may bypass the safety switches and custom wire it.

Im sure there will be other questions, but that is all at this moment. Thanks all!
