LED Turn Signals- Not the usual

So i am finally buttoning up my project and last night i was able to put the turn signal housings back in the car along with the front LED's. I now have all of the lighting in the car as LED. I am using 1157 towers for the front and rear turn signals and 194 5 SMD in the side marker housings.

yes i have switched out the flasher relays-

So here is my issue- when i turn on the running lamps, the side marker lights are barely lit, and the connection is only pulling 6 volts. When i put the old incandescent in the front housing, the side marker pulls full voltage. Otherwise it seems like everything is working well. Am i missing something? I bought the side markers from superbright, and the front towers from ebay.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys.

you need a load limiter. to help it out I have leds in the whole car.

I thought the signal relays would handle that, do you have a link to where you got yours?

Re: LED Turn Signals- Not the usual

Alright guys, i threw a load resistor on the side marker lamp just for kicks and nothing. I may also try one on the actual driving light, but we will see. Has anyone completed this swap without using resistors and if so what bulbs did you use for the driving/turn signal lights up front?

From what i can tell the side marker lamp is reverse polarity, and grounded through the driving lamp filaments depending on the situation. Any help here would be great.

Thanks in advance

Re: LED Turn Signals- Not the usual

What flasher are you using?
I have LEDs throughout the car, and don't need a load resistors.

The load resistors, sort of defeat the point of putting LEDs in the car. Instead of benefiting from the less current draw, the resistors are wasting all that energy and producing heat.

For the front side markets, did you get the kind that will light up no matter the polarity?

Those lights are strange, and the polarity changes when the parking lights are on, and you use the turn signal.

You need the kind that will lite no matter the polarity.

I agree with you on the resistors, thats why i went through the effort for the flashers.

I am using these
https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...Specifications

I had to run a ground wire to the chassis to make them work correctly.

Re: LED Turn Signals- Not the usual

I tried P&P type 194 LEDs in the side markers & they would only blink if the driving lights were on, but not off.I think that was with either a bulb or LED in the front markers.Only a relay fixed it so they function same as stock, but using my stock flasher though.

I tried several styles too w/ multiple LEDs for both fr./sides, but none were as bright as the bulbs. In the end, i modded some LED boards in the fr/side markers in the end.No resistors/load limiters either.Could be the tower style LEDs just aren't pulling enough load for the side marker....guessing.

Re: LED Turn Signals- Not the usual

Thanks 84- I actually read your thread on how you ended up doing yours. Honestly after the LT1 swap and all of that wiring i was hoping this was something pretty simple. I have done some digging and found a place that will sell an "adapter" that plug into the harness, but another $50 bucks. I decided that I am just going to run with the standard 2057 bulbs in the front turn signals. Maybe some day ill decide to go back them.

For anyone else finding this thread with the same question, this site probably gives the best explanation of what happens for our front turnsignals. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...rkerflash.html

For the side markers all I used were these
https://www.superbrightleds.com/more...Specifications

They are non polarized, so they work just like the original. I've had pretty good luck with them, bright enough for being a side marker.

For the fronts, and rears you are better off building your own. None of the plug/play bulbs will be bright enough or look right either.

Here is my thread on what I did
