MR AMP Alternator Installation

I just completed installing a MR AMP 150A alternator in my '91 RS which has a 350, .060 over 4 bolt I built removing the V6. My engine has a complete March pulley system with AC. The old alternator was an 84A from an earlier 305 engine I had in the car. My Volt meter would go from 14v with no load to 10v with everything on at idle ( blinkers would not flash) ( head lights, fog lights, AC fan on high, stereo ) I purchased the $319 alt kit from Performance Distributors (www.performancedistributors.com )901-396-5782. I now have 14.3 at the batt no load and 13.9 fully loaded at idle, NICE, headlights are brighter and AC works great. I highly recommend this upgrade for anyone with underdrive pulleys or with low voltage output. Pictures to follow if I can figure out how to get them loaded to the site. Purchase was worth every penny.

Re: MR AMP Alternator Installation

MR AMP install, first pic shows 4 gauge red wire coming off alt post down and under alt mount bolt to head. I ran this up around and behind the coolant reservior, then forward along fender rail to the 200A mega fuse. The 2nd pic shows where I mounted the fuse along the fender rail. ( I relocated the 20A main fuse which was here off the rail and down just in front of the coolant tank. the 3rd pic shows how I ran the balance of the 4 gauge cable around the front of the Batt location ( I think the photo is presented upside down) so it loops nicely back to the "+" terminal. I actually ran it through the openings just behind the headlights.

Re: MR AMP Alternator Installation

The 4th pic shows the original 2 wires that connected to the 2 prong connection into the original alt. One is red, which is always HOT with key off and the other wire is brown which is HOT 12v "key on". The red is no longer needed for the new alt so I put a wire nut on it and taped it. The brown wire is connected to the green wire which comes off the new alt plug. The new plug has two wires, the one previously described and a yellow wire which is connected to the alt post along with the new 4 gauge cable which runs to the 200A fuse and then to the "+" batt terminal. The pics of the volt gages show no load and full load. 14v down to 13 but my digital meter shows 14.3v and 13.9 respectively
