I have a Short, and need some ideas to pinpoint the problem on my 82 Trans Am
Hey guys, hope all is well. Happy Spring, its the season for driving :-D
So I have my 82 Trans Am that I have for a few years now, its been sitting in the garage for the winter, and every now and then I would start it,but it would need a boost. So eventually, I replaced the battery and alternator, all brand new. And the cars still dies after two days of not starting it. I tried the technique of disconnecting the battery terminal, and using a test light looking for a flashing light, and I really don't see anything on it. I did put a very good alarm system with smart start, and I just can't remember if thats the root of the problem, since it was installed over a year and a half ago. I really want to solve this problem, and get this baby back on the road again. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Actually you use a voltage gauge. Disconnect positive cable and put voltage gauge between positive cable and battery.
You are looking for draws above say .1 volts.
If it were to say .30'ish then you start pulling fuses and disconnecting stuff until drain is found.
Pretty simple to so

Actually you want to use an ammeter.
If a voltmeter is used the reading will be dependent on the ohms per volt sensitivity of the unit, therefore a good voltmeter will show 12 volts due to the ECM.
So, using an ammeter you don’t want to see more than 50 milliamps.
Sometimes the under-hood or hatch light does not go out so check those easy ones first.
Disconnect the alternator wires to see if IT’S the problem.
With everything turned off and doors closed observe the current flow.
Pull the fuses one at a time, including the pump fuse near the battery, till you see the current drop.
That’s the circuit with the problem.

Hello everyone, thanks for your input. So I think I found the problem, last year, I had a body shop paint the engine bay, for me,and apparently, then ended up painting the negative terminal lead for the battery. So I guess it was never getting proper contact. I also took the battery to sears, and they ended up charging the battery, and it passed a "load" test
