painless wiring help

I just installed my new wiring harness 60103 and had a few questions. 1) where exactly does the wire labeled start hook up to. Starter? If so which stud the big or little one. And 2nd) where does the wire labeled ignition go to.? Please help everything is hooked up. I have power but won't start.

Re: painless wiring help

Hi, my name is Jason and I work Tech support for Painless. The red wire with the large ring terminal labeled starter goes to the large terminal where your battery cable goes to on the starter. The wire labeled ignition needs to go to a key on power source that is hot in the start and run position. This wire is the one that will turn the computer on and off.

OK I have the ran to the big stud on my starter and for the ignition wire could I tie into the pink wire going to my external coil. Cause that is what I have going on and I have power but the car won't start.

Re: painless wiring help

Will the motor turn over and just won't fire or will it not turn over? If you want to call me at the office and we can work through it my number is 800 423-9696 ext 1017. Are you getting spark? Do you have a set of noid lights? If you spray carb. cleaner down the throttle body will it fire? How long was this engine sitting?

No the motor won't turn over at all and when I try all I hear is a clicking noise coming from the driver side kick panel and if I turn the key all the way on and off I can hear my computer click once. The motor is a crate 350 just got it in and was installing a new wiring harness but when i went to try it out I got nothing.I have the vats removed on the computer also.

Re: painless wiring help

Ok the engine not turning over is a seperate issue from the fuel injection harness. You need to check the start signal wire going to the starter s terminal from your chassis harness. Are you getting power to the s terminal when you turn the key to the start position? Is the factory wiring still in the car for all of the other functions like headlights and turn signals and what not?

Re: painless wiring help

Big red wire says starter goes to the big terminal on top of starter. The purple wire goes to the starter solenoid, then connect the battery positive to the top terminal with the start red wire. Then run the alternater wire to the positive side of the battery or to the same as the other red wires are go. Then make sure you have all good grounds one from the engine block to the body then from the enigne to the frame and the frame to the body and from the frame to the enigne and the batter ground.

Re: painless wiring help

OK update. I just got the motor to turn over but it didn't fire up. There is 3 post in my starter and I had the signal wire hooked up to the wrong post. When I try to start the car it backfires could it be the timing? I haven't checked for spark yet because it is getting dark. Man alot of weight has been lifted off of my shoulders hearing the motor turn.

Re: painless wiring help

Glad to hear it's turning over just don't keep turning it over, I would go ahead and bring #1 piston to top dead center!!! Then pull the dizzy out with it out check rotor button and cap. Then if it's all good install the dizzy back. And go ahead and get some new ac Delco spark plugs there great plugs. Makes your getting fuel and the carb filter is clean then start it up! And when you do get it started up bring the motor to 3000 rpm and should set the total advance around 34-36 degrees BFTD. And then you should be good to go. Hope this helps jay. If you need to call me you can just pm me and I'll give you my cell.
