Dome light, trunk switch will not work--HELP!!!.....

....after I installed a new headliner today. The rear view mirror mounted courtesy lights will also not work. My car is a t top, and I replaced the crappy old headliner. Everything went pretty smoothly, it looks great, but when I got done I noticed these things suddenly stopped working. The window mounted third brake light also does not work. I wondered if I bumped something and blew a fuse, but I never noticed anything unusual. The wiring under the headliner looks completely normal, looks like it was installed last week. Are all those on the same circuit? The fuse box is not that specific. There is power to the radio though. I did unscrew the console and look under it for a moment, but I don't think I pulled anything loose. What slays me is the trunk switch, I wouldn't think it would be on the same circuit as those lights. The trunk motor still works because if you open it with a key it will ascend, then pull the hatch back down when you close. It's only the switch itself. I don't know man, are all those on the same circuit? HELP!

Looking at the schematics for the 92 RS, the third brake light and the mirror courtesy lights share the same ground. That may or may not get you closer to a solution.

Probably on the same circuit then. Mine is a Formula, but that shouldn't matter. One small thing I just noticed. In the installation guides they say to remove the washer like clips from the dome light studs. I did that because you have to to get the dome light assembly off. However, it also says to disconnect the wires from the housing, which I did not do because I didn't see the point. Could be I shorted something out in my work. But what circuit are they on? I pulled a bunch of fuses out of the box and didn't notice any burned out. When all else fails, read the instructions....

The dome light, the mirror courtesy map lights and the hatch release switch are all on the ACC fuse. Dose the horn work?

Ok good! That narrows it down. And no, the horn does not work either, I just went out and tried it. Looks like we found the culprit, now which fuse is it? I may just have to pull every one of them and give them a look, but it'd be awesome to know exactly which one. I suck at wiring, I usually try to avoid it.

Also the book says that the ground connection for the map lights and the third brake light is located under the headliner near the dome light. Does that provide any clues?

Maybe. I hate to pull that thing down again, but may have to. If there's a problem, what do I need to look for? To me it looked normal when I looked under there earlier, but I didn't know what to look for.

It's the ACC fuse.

I think it will be worth it to take down the headliner again. You should see two black wires that come together and are bolted on to the sheetmetal. If they aren't bolted, then their not gorunded.

I couldn't wait til tomorrow. Went out and checked the fuse box. ACC fuse is blown, so that's gotta be it! Thanks for your help! This forum is awesome!

Re: Dome light, trunk switch will not work--HELP!!!.....

Hopefully. If I put a new fuse and it blows again, I'll pull that thing down and check the ground. Otherwise, I'll leave it where it is. My money is on just a blown fuse, I probably did it while I was bumbling around in there. If it's left alone it will probably be ok.
