I'm getting two new subs for my car and an amp that comes with a subwoofer control switch. I like to keep the look of the interior as streamlined as possible and don't like the idea of having the switch just stuck under the dash somewhere. So I'm wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to get the subwoofer control switch that came stock in our cars and wire that to the switch that comes with the amp via splicing the wires? thanks

No help on your question of integrating the new control into the old, but another option would be to run your amp control into the console. Out of sight, out of mind..

I considered that but the thought of hacking into my console scared me a bit

Understandable.
It wouldn't take a very large hole(just large enough to get the end of the cord to pass through).
What i would do is see if I could find a donor console at a junkyard to do the mod to, and save my good one to return to stock if needed.

Regarding mounting the stock gain switch, this is just a friendly mention of something you're probably already aware of, but just in case you aren't...

The '89 dash bezel does not have a blank cutout for the gain switch, as the subwoofer system was only offered thru the 1988 model year, so you'd need a bezel from an '85-'88 car. Or...

If you don't have a rear window defogger, you could use that blank space for the gain switch.

This might work:

Pull the "music note" icon button cover from a factory SUB button. Pull the "r-defroster" button cover from a Rear Defroster switch. Install the 'music note' button cover on a rear defroster button, then mount the custom ON/OFF button in a 85-88 bezel. (if needed)

The stock SUB button could probably be used but the "GAIN" rheostat control isn't needed. I'm betting the stock rear defroster button could be wired to simply turn the AMP ON/Off and using it would eliminate the "Gain" slide control. Sticking the correct music note icon button cover on it would make it 'appear' perfectly stock in your 89...........

The R-defroster button is controlled by a relay and has a large gauge OUT wire to supply power too. I think that these are good features for controlling an aftermarket AMP..... It might work !?!?!

You guys have a very good point although I've got that covered due to swapping my 89 analog gauges to 88 digital gauges so it does have the blank cutout. After doing some digging I did find someone who managed to make it work and gave quite detailed instructions on how to do it. (link to thread here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...hooked-up.html) so I'm feeling pretty optimistic on getting this thing to work. Now my only slight other concern is the amp I'm getting comes with a separate remote for bass boost so I'm just wondering that if the stock gain switch set to full on the slider will give the same amount of bass output as the switch on full that comes with the amp.

if i didnt want to change the stock look, i would make a bracket and mount it under the front of the drivers seat, where i could get to it while driving
