Help with Haywire Headlights?
The problem first started when I would use my alarm system. Whenever locking or unlocking the car using the alarm system, the headlights would flip up and down several times, when normally it would only be the blinkers and lights that flashed. Also, when I push only the right side of the headlight switch (which usually just turns on the running lights or whatever), the headlights still pop up. Does anyone have idea idea what this could be?

Also, I have a 91 firebird if that helps. Anyone think it may be caused by a bad Headlight control module (i think thats what it's called, the thing that is mounted against the firewall and says 'GUIDE' on it)? Or perhaps one of the relays. I'm really just baffled by this.

Somehow power is getting to the Headlight Door Module when it’s not supposed to.
It might be a faulty headlight switch.
Using a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) probe the brown wire at the headlight switch.
Is there power there when the headlight switch is in the marker lights position?
If yes, disconnect the brown wire at the switch.
Is there still power there when the headlight switch is in the marker lights position?
If yes, replace the switch.
Power for the light doors comes from the headlight switch brown wire , and the yellow wire.
From there it goes to the door module located in a bracket on the left side of the firewall.
The headlight module is a rectangular unit about 3" x 4".
When you have the headlight switch in the ON position power is supposed to be applied to the aforementioned wires which go to the module.
The module is then supposed to apply power to the door motors VIA the wires coming out of the module at terminals 2A thru 2D.

I have a similar issue. Even when I only push the parking light button, the headlight doors open. The lights don't come on unless you push the actual headlight button, but the doors open from either one. I replaced the headlight switch, but it didn't help. I'm going to do a headlight motor rebuild soon, hopefully that will fix it, but I'm not sure.

The yellow wire is the one responsible for opening the light doors.
Monitor that wire while pressing the key fob alarm button.
If you see power during the pressing you know that’s the problem.
Was the alarm system installed by someone other than yourself?

Examiner, that is my issue exactly. I ended up replacing the headlight door module, but that did not fix the problem. At least I got it for $20 bucks so it wasn't too bad. And Nina, the alarm system was in the car when I bought it a few years ago, but this only started recently. I do think think it would be the switch either since the alarm system doesn't actually press the switch. Any other ideas? Isn't there another relay somewhere or something?
EDIT: I see something in the schematics called the "Daytime Running Lights Module". It does appear that this module interfaces with the wires going to the Headlight Door Module at some point. Could the problem be here?

Ok, thanks. I still need to do the rebuild though because my ***** keep spinning for a couple seconds even after the doors are closed. Where is the headlight door module located? And the daytime running light module? But I'm on the edge of my seat looking for an answer to the other issue of the doors opening. This is why I hate wiring.....ugh!

I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE ON MY 91 T/A. WITH THE PARKING LAMPS ON, SOMETIMES THE HEADLIGHT DOORS WILL OPEN BUT THE LIGHTS WILL BE OFF. OTHER TIMES THEY STAY DOWN BUT WHEN I DRIVE THEY WILL RANDOMLY OPEN. ALSO NOTICED THAT IF I TURN ON A BLINKER THEY WILL OPEN TOO. I WAS THINKING HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE OR HEADLIGHT SWITCH?

rock_n_roller, the Daytime Idiot Lights Module is in the cars shipped to Canada, but that doesn’t mean your car can’t have one.
The Daytime Idiot Lights Module would be located behind the extreme left side of the dash.
It looks like a flattish but large relay.
It has two connectors going to it.
So if you find a Daytime Idiot Lights Module in your car, you can pull the plugs off of it to see if the doors problem goes away.
Also, did you perform the test described in post #7?

I thought I would update you guys. I purchased both the switch and the headlight module. I replaced the module first and 1 week in hasn't messed up once. I'm hesitant to say it's fixed but maybe......
