Gauge Lights

So i was driving home from work yesterday and i turn my headlights on and the gauge cluster lights just went out. Every other light in my car works, the headlights work, my radio works i can turn my center light on.

Anyone have any input on this? it be greatly appreciated

Car: 1986 Iroc, 89RS
Engine: 350 tpi, 350 tbi
Transmission: 700r4,700r4
Axle/Gears: 4.10,2.73

I am working on the same problem now.
Here is what I found out. The gauge lights go through the "tail" fuse.
But; on mine, the fuse is good and the problem appears to be in the headlight switch.
The pwr line for the inst-lights goes into the headlight switch. I will see if I can find the drawing that helped me solve my problem.

I am sorry, that is the wrong drawing; I will see if I can find the "right" one.
Anyway; in my case it is the headlight switch that is bad.

Check the light switch. It has a rheostat which is an adjustable resistor which can go bad. Quite often on GM cars had this problem with the turn to dim/ brighten the interior lights on the headlight switch.
I'd get one from the auto salvage and try it.
