I replaced my 60amp altenator for a 105 amp, got it hooked up, had my pickup running and hooked to my camaros battery to charge, well i noticed smoked rolling out of the alt, i disconnected the 2-wire pigtail from alt and it quit smoking. Whats goin on?

Re: new alt smoking

Just a guess but maybe overloaded or shot regulator. When you unplugged it it probably just shut off.

Were both engines running when you had the car and the truck jumpered together?

Thanks for the idea, the 8 month old battery shorted itself.
