Rewiring VATs?

I was wiring up a button to push start my car and accidentally snipped the VATs wire (the two white ones)... Now my car won't start, when you turn the key to the on position nothing happens no warning lights or anything. Since I have the starter bypassed and everything with the button I can crank the engine but it wont turn over. I know there are ways to bypass VATs with resistors but after reading up on it I think I would have an issue doing that since the only key I have for the car has the chip on it which combined with the resistor would cause it not to start either. My question is is this VATs that's keeping my warning lights from coming on and my car from starting? Also is there anyway to rewire the VATs from the wires I snipped? It's not the battery or anything else because before I snipped the wire I tested everything and it would turn over but after the VATs wire nothing...

Yes, it's the VATS that is not allowing your care to run.

Just reconnect the wires, and the resistor in the key will then again be read and allow the car to run.

FYI, when the resistor bypass is performed, the key cylinder gets removed from the equation. The resistor is connected between the two white wires and the key cylinder disconnected from the circuit.

Alright thanks for the reply, it turns out I didn't have true connection for the 12Vs that power the dash... Now back to VATs.. I notice there are two wire a purple and a white one coming out of the clip that the two white ones connect to. If I snip the purple and white from the clip and eliminate the clip in whole does it matter which wire is connected to whatever white wire? Sounds a little dumb but does the purple wire need a specific white wire?

No, you can connect in either polarity (for lack of a better description).

Earlier cars only had white wires on both the car side and the column side, not sure why they changed that in later cars, but the same applies.

Alright well I get power to my dash and all the warning lights come on like it normally did but now it won't turn over? It cranks and cranks but won't turn over, when I turn my key to start the car the temperature gauge maxes out and nothing happens. Once you let off the key the temperature gauge resets.

Yeah, that's called a gauge test, similar to bulb test on non gauge package cars.

Have you reconnected the VATS wires yet?

Cranking is TURNING over ,as in the engine is being turned over / rotated by the starter.
What you are describing is a Crank , No Start condition

Yes I got everything running again! Even the button to start the car, even with the VATs connected it wasn't letting me start until I tried jumping the starter once then everything ran fine. Also I was wondering if you could help me out with some switches for my radio or should I start a different thread for that?

Not being a a-hole .
Just helps if everyone is using the same terminological when describing a problem .
Too often confusion on here arises because one poster's description of a problem does not align with how most others would describe it
