Thinning the harness, what can go and how to remove it?
ok so im doing a restoration on my 85 z28, im bout to pull the original motor and replace it with another low milage on
however along with this im removing the cruise control and the smog pump
i want to thin the harness as much as possible and do a wire tuck (hide the harness as much as possible)
so what can go and how do i go about remove it properly and fully from the harness as if it was never there?

if its a carbed model, take the main (engine)harness out, theres a bolt in it (beside brake booster in the middle of the plug) and all the car needs to run is the ignition wire, alt and starter to run. if you wanna use your stock guages you will have to find the sensors and lable the wires.
you should be able to push the pins out, i cant remember was a while ago i did mine.

Its a 1985 IROC Z28 LB9 305 TPI auto car, im removing the AC(leaving heater buying a no ac box from hawks) the smog pump, cruise control, and anything else that can go
however i dont wana just leave all the wiring for the removed accessories, i want to thin the harness of what ever wires can go, like completely remove certain wires, but i dont know what i can remove and how i should do so

Re: Thinning the harness, what can go and how to remove it?
like i know how to remove the harness from the car, im having trouble trying to put what i want to do in words, but leme try again
FOR example, say i remove the smog pump, which i have, and the wires are left, how would i go about COMPLETELY removing those extra wires as if they never existed?
and what other junk in the harness can go? like say if i deleted my ac, and cruise control, and stuff like that, WHAT can go and what HAS to stay?
sorry im terrible with wording things soemtimes

Re: Thinning the harness, what can go and how to remove it?
1st, removing things to never put them back isn't a restoration.
2nd, get a factory service manual from HELM 4 your car.
When you unplug the wires you don't want, mark them for removal.
When you get the harness out of the car, you can take it all apart and trace the wires to the ECM or where they stop in a connector. Then cut or remove them. They are now deleted.
There is no black magic here at all.

Re: Thinning the harness, what can go and how to remove it?
ok thats pretty straight forward, i wasnt sure if i could just remove them from the conector on the firewall/ecu would cause any kind of electrical hazard
and only due to missing most of my AIR system im removing it as well as the cruise control because the harness inside the steering collumn was cut before i got the car, im trying to keep it looking as clean and close to original as i can..
but i have had no luck finding the AIR parts i need and iv been looking locally for over a year now so im just removing it and forgetting about it
