Base bird gauges to T/A

Car: 1986 Firebird, 1992 camaro
Engine: 79' 350, 89 305
Transmission: TH400, 700r4
Base bird gauges to T/A

is there any difference with the base firebird gauges and the gauges from a T/A with a higher speedometer gauge? by differences i mean is it plug and play or is there some cutting soldering and computer work to be done?

No difference to my knowledge. They should all read the same and the sensors are identical too.

okthats what i figured, i have to replace the covers for my gauges anyways so i figure why not upgrade

Time out !

If the firebird was a 6 cyl then the tach will be off, oil press maybe diff also. Not sure about speedo sender from small to larger engine ?

If it was a 305/350 going to a 350 then they should be same.

The Firebird is a V8 so the tachometer is no factor. But thank you for mentioning it for clarity.
And the oil pressure sender characteristics should be identical between V6 and V8.
The speedometer does not matter either because the speed signal (mechanical in this case) is scaled in the speedometer. Provided, of course, that it is not a cluster with the newer electronic VSS speedometer.

Not to disagree Lou but, the v6 and v8 did use a different oil sender for the gauge.
Airtex - ps133 for 80psi gauge v6, ps140 for 60psi gauge v8

The rest I agree, the poster stated engine in his sig in the original post.

Mine WAS NOT plug and play, I had to move some wires around. I believe the camaro's are plug and play. My is an 84 V6 base model that now has full gauges.

Bummer, didn't know that they used a differently spec-ed sender on the V6, my bad. But the gauge is easy to swap in the cluster.

I can only guess the pressure sender had to be different to keep the same 0-90 ohm gauge guts (with different face pressure reading) "accurate". Speculation only.

That makes logical sense.
I learned that with Chevy, there is nothing BUT speculation.

I'll be humble and i do not claim to be an expert on gauges and senders. Just enough to get me into trouble ..

What threw me off was he said a "Base Firebird", which ... to my knowledge is a V6, so thats where I got the idea.

Its amazing how many parts are in a car and how they varied within model ranges.

mine is a v8 base model, not v6


if you run the vin number on my car it says base model but it is a v8
