Electronic Hatch Pop in 84
I've searched around and found info on installing the later hatch popper (such as the ones in the later birds) but nothing about installing the ones from the later birds into a 82-84. I was wondering if I go to the junkyard and tear an assembly out of the one they have (1989 bird) if it would be a pretty straight forward install on my 84? Also, what parts would I need off it?

Re: Electronic Hatch Pop in 84
In order to convert from your "slam" hatch latch to a "pull down" latch you will need to remove the factory brackets used to mount the original hatch "pop" solenoid. Only then can the proper bracket from an 86-91 body can be welded into place.
Here is a picture of the original 82-84 unit:
Here is the 86-91 hatch "pull down" version:
Once that project is completed you would need to remove/replace the original plastic rear hatch trim panel with the 86-92 version so that the PPD hatch motor is properly hidden behind the panel. The PPD motor can also have an additional hatch "pop" solenoid installed with a button on the console (Camaro) or dash (Firebird).

So basically I need everything from the bracket back along with the switch from the dash to finish the job. Will the newer panel work with my 84 cargo cover though?
