Blue hatch motor wire connector

From seaching the threads I know this blue wire is supposed to connect to the red power wire, but why are the connectors different? My car is an '87, and this hatch motor unit is from an '86. Shouldnt they be the same?

Re: Blue hatch motor wire connector

A lot of times they will use the same color wire or simular however they will change the connectors. Found this can be the case with some interior wires. Wires are the same color but connectors are different. Found this out when swapped out 85 for 88 mirrors on my TA.

Re: Blue hatch motor wire connector

The large white connector was used for the 86-87 model year. The small black connector was used on the 88-early 91 models. Just cut off and swap the connectors.

So you're saying my motor is from a 88-91? I guess that eBay seller lied, because he said it was from an 86.

I can't swap the connectors because my original motor was removed by the previous owner (he made the track stationary). I'll have to rig up something.

If you don't have the proper large white connector available, you have a few options available. The white wire with a small black connector is unused for your model year. It was used on 89-91 model years to turn on/off the hatch light automatically when the hathc opened/closed. In your case, if youhave hte hatch light you'll have a manual switch to turn it on/off.

You can cut off the small black connector that is on the white wire and splice it onto the red/white stripe wire in place of your original large white connector. Now you'll be able to plug the black connector of the blue wire into the red/white stripe wire.

Option two involves either picking up the correct striker sensing switch that has the large white connector from a pick-a-part yard or buy it from me online.

Option three is to just cut off both the large white connector and the small black connector and just splice the red/white wire to the blue wire directly or with shielded male/female spade connectors from Radio Shack.

Re: Blue hatch motor wire connector

Any clues on how to troubleshoot hatch lock problem. Hatch is open, and will not pull down on 86 T/Am
Thanks
