changed out neutral safety switch car wont start

no starter does not turn , turn the key and nothing . i set switch up according to manuel . how can i bypass this f ing switch

in an automatic the neutral saftey switch is bolted to the gear select under the center console. If your car is a stick and won't start at all it could be the clutch start switch or the starter.

When you changed out the park/neutral switch on the shifter, did you adjust it as is recommended?

might have a wiring issue somehow. you can put the big yellow and the big purple together to bypass it, but i dont recommend it. you car will start in any gear. hit something, run somebody over. im sure you know this. fix a jumper and see if it will turn over so you know you dont have other stuff going on.

1) What was wrong that led you to think you needed a new NSS?

2) Could it not be a VATS issue? Have you tried bypassing the VATS?

3) What about the Starter Enable Relay, did you check it?

4) What about the Ignition Switch (not the key cylinder, but the actual switch) - did you check it?

I guess what I'm getting at, is that your cat may not start for many reasons, and I want to know why/how you narrowed it down to the NSS and not any of the other possibilities.

Read this closely as I have never seen Camaronewbie give bad advice. I am always two steps behind him but he is always right. When I got my car a previous owner had swapped out the NSS and I found the one they put in to be bad. Luckily they left the original on the passenger seat and I put it back in. My problem(since dealt with) was the VATS and the NSS was changed as a misleading diagnosis.

I have an 84 S/C with a 86(?) 305 TPI & ECM. B&M Ratchet shifter. Wiring is a NIGHTMARE ! Push button was installed to starter solenoid. No n/s switch. (took me 2 hours to figure out how to get back up lights to work with shifter) Is there a VATS on this ? The guy did a class act on the suspension, and such but his wiring SUCKS ! Tube connectors, splices, dangling wires everywhere ! Would like to get it back to key switch. Having starter issues, believed to be low amps to solenoid ? He had a 16ga. wire to solenoid, I replaced it with 10ga. it helped, but wire is run from fuse panel

VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System) was introduced by GM on the 1986 Corvette because the Corvette had become the number
one target of car thieves. Corvette thefts dropped so impressively after VATS was implemented that GM expanded the system
in 1988 to the Camaro, Firebird, and Cadillac Seville. Before long, VATS was standard equipment on all Cadillac vehicles and
on many other Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, and Oldsmobile vehicles. As the system was added to more vehicles, GM began
using the terms “PASSkey-1” and “PASSkey-2” as more descriptive names for the system. From the locksmith’s point of view,
there is no functional difference between VATS and PASSkey-1 or PASSkey-2, and most technicians still refer to the system
simply as VATS.

Thanks Bob ! Through some trial and error, I got it figured out . Pulled the loom off the wiring harness, he had cut the one momentary exciter wire off the alternator. I found wires spliced and taped with Duct Tape! Got my work cut out for me!
