Maybe Alt. No. 4 will bring me luck...

My set up is a simple carb'd SBC. Electrical outside of standard lights is as follows: MSD ignition box, elec. rad fan, trans cooler fan, stock 3.1 fuel pump and an aftermarket tach. The alt. i orginally used on this engine was from my carb'd '88 that had a 96-00 105amp 5.7 Vortec alt. Steve (Chvy Wolf) took care of all the unnessecary stock 3.1 wiring that the car was originally equiped with. I have a brand new battery, and it was fully charged EVERYTIME before running the engine with a new alt. I installed the 3rd one mon. night, ran the car for 20-25 minutes, turning the fans on when needed. Voltage was at 14.4 .. Everything was looking great. Yesterday ran the engine for 20 mins. or so. I wanted to see how far off the timing was, so after it was warmed up i shut it off. 5 seconds later i bumped the key, car fires right up everything looks great...Except the volt meter. Now the alt is putting put out 12.2, the same that the other 2 were putting out. With that out put the battery is obviously not gettiing enough voltage/amps back. Why does my carb'd '91 like to eat these things??

The Las Vegas Of Charging

Did the problem occur immediately after the car was rewired?

If no, how long did it last after rewiring?

Was the alternator that first failed after rewiring the same one that was in the car before the rewiring?

Do you have a
BATTERY light or voltmeter in the dash?

If People Drove Any Slower They’d Be Going Backwards

When you see fog or “running” lights on in good weather beware. Low performance driver ahead.

How bout those nitwits too scared to drive without headlights in the daytime and the nitwits that need headlights for a little rain
