car stalling at idle.

car stalling at idle.
Hey guys, Just like the title says, the camaro keeps stalling out on idle. I fire her up, she runs for a split second (barely) and dies. I've tried the tps sensor, it's reading fine, I've tried the iac reset (if you will) and no difference. I hear the fuel pump prime (haven't checked fuel pressure yet but if I keep my foot on the gas she'll run fine.
I was driving her around a couple days ago with no problems. It's funny (not really) this happened the day I had her booked in for her emission test.
The engine is a 1990 350, TPI, with a five speed tranny. A couple of months ago I just put new plugs in her, new PCV, new t-stat, new cap and rotor. I have yet to check the fuel pressure, thats next I guess.
For the past three years (when I dropped the engine in) the car has always had a miss (previous owner said it had a miss as well). I put new pink top ford injectors in her since 6 out of 8 multi-techs were dead (common I know) an MSD coil, an accel ICM, msd wires and fuel filter before I put the car on the road, but she still had the miss.
I dunno, what do you guys think, could it be the dizzy? What are some signs that the dizzy has gone bad?
Also something that has always happened is, I'll fire her up, take her for a drive shut it off for say 20 mins, come back out fire her up and she runs rough and will stall if I don't give her some gas for say.. a min.
I dunno... help! lol

Re: car stalling at idle.
I would suggest checking the fuel pressure as a first step. My 1989 305 FI Vin E (TBI) would 'catch' and then die out immediately. I eventually determined it was a problem with fuel pressure. I could hear the pump, it would deliver a very good volume of fuel into an empty fuel canister down by the fuel filter, but it was not able to build pressure at the carburetor. It turned out to be a split in the submersed hose that connects the fuel pump to the hard line inside the fuel tank. The split was acting like a very low set pressure regulator. Anything above a few PSI was squirting right back inside the fuel tank. That hose has to be rated as 'submersible' and meet SAE 30R10 similar to NAPA H213.

Check the timing. Stalling at idle is one of the symptoms of incorrect timing. Just ask Randy, he had the same problem last week.
Fuel pressure check would be in order as well.

Re: car stalling at idle.
Maybe the problem is with the CTS (Coolant Temperature Sensor) or the wires from the CTS to the ECM. You indicate you have to feed extra gas to keep it running. Maybe the ECM thinks the engine is always HOT and therefore does not feed as much fuel to the engine as when it detects a COLD engine. Apparently the CTS also causes a timing change when starting a cold engine versus a warm engine. If the ECM is 'TOLD' the engine is warm it will not change the timing. As far as I can tell the ECM thinks the engine is warm if the CTS has a low resistance. Maybe there is a short of some kind in the CTS sensor. Just an idea to investigate.
