Can Anyone Identify This?
I just bought a new project, and looking it over, it all looks pretty good....except for this. I think one of them is the fuel pump relay? or is it something else? Sorry the pic isn't better, this is on the driver side firewall.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Can Anyone Identify This?
The relay at #3 might be the fuel pump relay but the colors don't appear to be correct, looks more like the colors for the cooling fan. Knowing the make, model, year, and engine would help. It might be a model with a mechanical fuel pump. Is #2 the same wiring as #3?
#1 might be MAP wiring/MAP vacuum hose, #4 MAP sensor. Again, more info and maybe more pics would help.

It's a 1986 firebird 305 v8 with a mechanical fuel pump and a carburetor. The relay could be for fans?
I circled the wrong thing for #2 - I meant to circle the plug above the wiring, which is cut also.
I'll have another pic shortly...

Re: Can Anyone Identify This?
#2 appears to go to the throttle kicker relay (that might be located on the passenger side radiator bracket). There should be a pink/black wire that goes from the engine control fuse to terminal C of the throttle kicker relay (one side of the coil). The other wire on #2 should be black and go from the ECM C2 (connector 2) terminal E to the other side of the throttle kicker relay coil on terminal B.
#1 should go to the "vacuum sensor," #4. Black to terminal A, light green to B, and gray to C.
#3 appears to be the fan relay--wires should be red (fuseable link), black/red (to fan motor), brown/white (12v to coil), and dark green (fan switch and A/C control to coil).
Do all these colors match up?

Re: Can Anyone Identify This?
Useful info, I was under the assumption that the relay by the radiator/battery was the relay for the fan. So I went to the junkyard and pulled that. Seems, I need to go back and get the other ones, lol!
The two relays by my firewall; the #3 in the picture is also burnt up on my car and my fans don't turn on either. Direct wired it to a heavy duty high amp toggle switch and some heavy duty #8 or was it #10 wire. Holding up well. I was waiting to go to the junkyard to get the correct one but I guess I wasted my $2.00 entrance fee... Well, at least I can replace the burnt up relay by my radiator/battery with an unburnt unit as well as replacing some other connectors I got.

Re: Can Anyone Identify This?
Hey guys! I just joined this forum a few days ago. I noticed this thread today, and if you need any help on finding out which relay, wire color for this area let me know. I have a 86 Firebird with all original wires and factory relays for the Coolant Fan,Baro switch, etc.

Joel: I know its been awhile since you posted this--but you still out there. I've got an 86, 8cyl., carbed firebird, and yes I could use your 86 expertise. Thanks

Re: Can Anyone Identify This?
Hey Joel: Impressive you've still got the firebird. Anyhow, I have a thread going title "Reinstalling Quadrajet and as much emissions as possible". If you could offer your thoughts, Id really appreciate the help. Please keep in mind that although I have owned this car some thirty years, I am a real novice with engine mechanics (always just brought it to dealership for service, but nowadays hard to find someone with carb experience, that is willing to work on these), but am trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks for replying. Will be back on here tomorrow.

Re: Can Anyone Identify This?
What sofakingdom and naf said is as usual spot on. Yes, the blue wire on driver side is for the kicker solenoid. The green wire on pass side for the coolant temp. That is the coolant fan relay by the brake booster, I remember the colors because I just replaced that pig tail last week. The relay up front by radiator is for the headlight function. I will try to check mine for this unidentified connector in the next day or so.
