90-92 dash swap Woes'

Hello, I have started to do my dash swap recently and have come up with some unused connectors. I'm just wondering if anybody can help me identify these connectors.
What I am trying to do is update the dash in my 1983 Camaro to the 90-92 style dash. I bought it off Ebay and the wiring harness looked pretty complete and not too hacked up wich was good. I have also switched the orginal 305 carbed motor to an 88' 350 TPI. I've been reading the past couple of days on what to do like switching some wires around for the guage cluster to work properly, that I have done already.
These connectors that are unknown to me are under the dash on the drivers side.
Dash connector #1 has 4 wires (green, yellow, brown, blue) looks like it is some sort of relay connector.
Dash connector #2 has 4 wires (white, orange, grey, yellow) I know this connector has something to do with curtesy lights or dome light but I'm not sure what the yellow and grey wires are for.
Dash connector #3 has 4 wires (grey/blk,blue,grey,pink/blk) I am using my original 83' steering column and I think this connector is in use for the 90-92 airbag steering column.
I don't have access to manual schematics for a 90-92 Camaro so I hope Cdoyle reads this post because I know he's done this swap in his 84' Camaro.
If anybody else that has done this swap can give me some info on these connectors or how I should wire them up I't would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 90-92 dash swap Woes'

Hi,
All those wires look familiar, The one that is suppose to have a relay. There are 2 that look like that, one is for the VATS (I think that's what it's called). If you haven't done it already, you'll have to bypass that. Then the other that looks just like it, I'm not sure what it's for. I've seen it, but not sure what it does. Everything seems to work on mine with no relay in it. So I never really looked into it much more.

The one for the steering column, I believe were for the airbag and maybe the vats again. I had some left over too, I just left them in the harness.

Here are some diagrams that I have

and here is another great resource for diagrams too

The relay socket looks like it could be for fog lights, the wires appear to be the right colors for lights.

Re: 90-92 dash swap Woes'

Hello everybody,
Thanks for the quick reply's. It's good to know that you had some left over connectors Cdoyle. The diagrams will definetly help solve some mysteries! I also have a couple of yellow connectors not hooked that run down the center console. I believe the are for the SIR system (airbag). I will look into bypassing the VATS. I thought you could disable it through the ECM by programming your own chips. That I am able to do because I have all the stuff for that.
The empty relay socket for fog lights makes sense because when I got the dash it did not have a fog light switch in the instrument cluster. Now I plan on using aftermarket fog lights so I bought a 90-92 fog light switch to make it look factory. The wiring for the switch was already there. I also have the fog light wiring for the enginge bay from an 88' IROC. I'll try to make it work!
How did you hook up your curtesy lights Cdoyle? I've ben doing some searching here and have read that some cars did not come with curtesy lights but map lights instead and my dash upgrade did not come with these lights
Here's a couple of pic's of the yellow connector that runs through the console.
Thanks for the help!

You may be able to bypass by making your own chips, not really sure. If you have a way to do it that, way great!

The way I did it, was basically just running a jumper between 2 wires.

That brown wire, I wanna say has something to do with the HVAC. I remember seeing it, and for some reason the heater controls is coming to mind.

The yellow one I think is something to do with the airbags again. All the yellow ones, I think are still unplugged on my car.

As for the dome lights, that was one area where I had to splice into the wires a little. I wanna say I tapped into the orange one, using my old wiring. I'll have to go back out and look. It's been awhile but I know I had to tap into something to make it work.
