Electric Fan Wiring Question
I have my engine taken apart and I noticed that the wiring for my electric fans (dual) is in bad shape. I am going to be doing some rewiring for it, but I am not sure if I should use an inline fuse or not. The reason I am not sure is because I saw one on a 1989 RS, but mine does not have one. I know my cars previous owner did an engine swap and think they may have messed a lot of wiring up. Just looking for some verification of if I need an inline fuse and if so, what voltage/type? Thanks

Re: Electric Fan Wiring Question
It depends on what kind of fan you have.
I'm running an FAL fan that draws only 19A nominal, and 30A max.
You also need a coolant temp sensor and a fan controller of some sort. My Racepak has a built in fan controller so it's controlling the fan at a certain temperature.
I'm not sure what engine/computer combo you're using, but you need to find a good place to put the the coolant temp sensor if you don't have a factory sensor to tap into.

Re: Electric Fan Wiring Question
I believe that everything is stock from an 87 IROC (350 ci) with dual fan set up. Everything worked fine before and the fans kicked on when the temperature rose, but there is a lot of exposed wire on the wiring harness, so I want to replace that.

I don't think you can get new body harnesses from the dealer but I haven't tried so I wouldn't know. You may want to check the junkyard, but make sure that you trace every wire to make sure that they're the same as your car because some cars have extra options that may not be appropriate for you.
