MAF sensor/relay?

alright, so my problem is I'm pulling a code 33, MAF sensor. its on an 87 trans am 305 TPI. the odd thing is though, it usually runs fine...while the SES light is on. if I crank it up and the SES light doesn't come on, it usually comes on shortly down the road, no worries...runs fine. however if I crank it up and head out in a hurry, and the SES light doesn't come on, it will start bucking and shuddering around half throttle making it almost undrivable in any kind of traffic situation.

is there anyway I can bypass the MAF for the time being? I have a feeling its a bad relay but I need to wait till payday to get a new one

Re: MAF sensor/relay?

Unplug the MAF. That will force the car into limp home mode... It will at least drive.

Re: MAF sensor/relay?

There is a new spray cleaner designed for MAF sensors that is on the market now. I believe that it is marketed by CRC and it is carried at most Advance stores. It comes in a gray can.

Re: MAF sensor/relay?

ok, new development. turns out the previous owner replaced a bunch of wires with orange wire. I can't get to where they are spliced but I know that the three relays on the driver side of the firewall don't have their original colors. I'm also pulling a code 33 and 34. trying to make sure its not a wiring problem with the MAF before I have to go buy a whole new sensor. any ideas? again its on an 87 trans am, 305 TPI
