Need a Painless Wiring Harness

Well for my project car, I basicly want to pull all the old crappy wiring out of the car and run a full car wiring harness for it. All I will have in the engine bay is alternator, and power steering. No AC, no smog.

I am going to be running a 355 with a Wieand 177 blower on top. Carbed obviously. Do you think I need an in tank fuel pump, or can I just get away with maybe an inline fuel pump and a mechanical? I just want to make sure it will get enough fuel. Should I run a computer? I don't think I am really going to need it.

The car will have radio, power windows, power door locks, taillights, headlights, and I think thats it. I just need to see if any one else has done this. ANY input would be helpful.

I was thinking of doing just a universal wiring harness from painless, but wasn't to sure on what to get. Heres a couple pages I found.

Heres a list of the different harnesses I found:
http://painless.r-catalog.com/pg-lkp/merchname.asp

So please, any help would be great. Thanks!

So no one has rewired thier whole car? If no one has, I don't mind being the guiney pig for the rest of you. There always has to be someone who does it first! Well I think I might just go with the 18 Circuit Universal GM Keyed Wiring harness. I plan on keeping the power windows and door locks and all that good stuff.

Check out Classic Industries. I know they have the full painless kits for the car.

I'm sorry, I was mistaken. After looking through my catalog, they only have a 14 circuit and it only is good for up to 1986. They don't have an 18 circuit the third gens yet. Sorry, I thought I was going to be a big help.

Also, your link comes up with nothing. It asks to start a new search...

Dont buy a painless harness. They either have way too much wire or not enough. If your just looking for a basic universal chassis harness then check out www.larryselectricsite.com and give him a call, tell him Brad referd you. I have installed many of his harnessess with no probs. Even has great tech support

I've re-wired an 81, and did a lot of custom work,
mainly in re-arranging & adding circuits in the fuse box,
and switching a different instrument panel.
(The design of the fuse box is quite interesting.)

Carburators don't need computers.

Based on the extent of your original post, my recommendation
is to keep all the internal circuits (dash, lights, & creature
comforts, etc.) as much as possible. Average cost for a GM
specific terminal will be $0.50, and theres bunches of them.
You can clean up engine bay wiring by focusing on the fire-wall
bulkhead connector -- add & remove as necessary, including
the ECM-EFI circuitry. Dash instumentation driven by the ECM
may be problematic. Check out the wiring schematics on the
sticky link to Auto-Zone (they're pretty good), as the starting
point. Determine what you need to keep, what can be deleted,
and what you need to add. A good set of crimpers that curl
the connector tabs in, is mandatory. Heat-shrink on eng. comp.
wires connections adds a measure weather resistance. I'm partial
to Spiwrap for re-wrapping harnesses. It's can be made to look
more neat & organized.

It's really not that hard. The worst part will be removing that
nasty tape that GM used to much of. Good luck
