Speedo: I'm going to fix it if it kills me!
Okay, my speedo has been tested to read 11 MPH high, whether it is with my old VSS or not. So, now, I am going to go through the system to find out just why the thing does this. I am going to take apart all of the connectors and clean thr crap out of each and every one of them, from the VSS, right to the back of the speedo head. If this doesn't work, can someone recommend a shop that I send the cluster to, just in case? I have a digital gauge cluster for my '93 Grand Prix I also need to send out, for repairs (dim display, if anyone cares) and to have the odometer recalibrated, and I can send both out at the same time if I need to. I am not in any rush here, the Bird is in storage until around mid April, and I can't get at it until then, so I am just collecting information.
I am looking for pictures of the connectors and where they are located, along with any info anyone thinks might help. Also, it's not just the needle that is reading wrong, my odometer is off by 500 miles per oil change (at 3000 miles). Needless to say, this problem has me and . Any info will be greatly appreciated.

your sig shows you swapped out the trans, maybe the 5 speed has the wrong gears in it.
in New York there were 2 factory service centers, United Radio, 5705 Enterprise Pkwy E. Syracuse 315 446 5570 &
Model Electronic Inc. 321 Rt 59 Nanuet 914 623 8020
this is a bit dated so they may no longer service the GM clusters. i have no ideal how good either of these places are, just that at one time they did instrument cluster repairs for the dealerships in the area.

First off, the gears are the first thing I checked. I have a 19T driven and a 7T drive gear, as counted BY HAND, same ratio as those taken from my 700R4, which had 15T drive and 41T driven.
Second, tire size, even though I have two different brands and three different kinds (rears are matched, right front was bad so I only had that one replaced in October), all three are stock 215/65/15 tire size. The rears were on the car before I swapped the trans, and so for that matter, were the fronts, and the speedo read correctly with them.
I ask for the connectors and their locations, because, at the same time I did the trans swap, I also did some minor engine work (timing chain replacement), and pulled the dashboard out to gain access for the pedal set swap. During which time, almost everything was left unplugged for at least a week, and, depending on how much crap was on my hands and was in the air, the connector pins could have gotten dirty or corroded, causing the signal to be altered.

on the connector pictures, you may want to PM Trickster, he may have them & their locations.

Re: Speedo: I'm going to fix it if it kills me!
I know I'm bringing this back from the dead, but I have good AND bad news.
The yellow factory buffer box is good. The wiring is good. The connectors are clean.
I have disassembled the cluster and found a major problem. On the speedometer, there is a PCB, mounted to the top of the housing. This connects, with brass (or whatever they are made of) screws, to the cluster's PCB film. Now, this is obviously where the signal is changed into a drive signal for the motor that actually turns the needle. Now, on this PCB, there is a series of three ceramic resistors right next to each other. The middle one has overheated and is mildly burnt, and the others have been scorched. Is it time to look for a different cluster, or can this possibly be fixed?
BTW, the needle was off slightly from where it should have been, and the correct reading is 68 MPH for 60.
