OK, awkward question. I was removing my starter motor today and was taking out those large bolts that connect it to the flywheel, and the top of the bolt broke off, so the rest of the bolt is stuck in place, but the starter motor and everything is off. Is there a tool that will extract the rest of the bolt?

If your still stuck after , then try to file a flat or two on the end of your exposed stud. That'll allow some better grip for the vise-grips.
You're quite lucky, every time I snap a bolt, it's always buried in the damn hole. Good luck.

two things come to mind real quick. 1st, i would use eay out. you drill a small hole in the broken bolt then, tap the easy out in the hole and start backing it out. it has flutes like a reverse drill bit. if that fail drill and tap time. dont drill out the remaing good threads, start small and work your way up. sometimes the bolt will come out before the tap is needed. this usually happens when the bit "grabs" more than the drill can turn.
