Headlight Problem

Howdy,

I have an '87 GTA that I'm having some problems with the headlights. When I turn them on, they won't go up. If I manually raise the lights and then turn them on, they go down.

I'm thinking the headlight control module is bad (I pulled it off of a junker in the junkyard) is this a servicable part or do I just need to buy a new one?

Thanks.

It could be the headlight control module. It could also be that the bushings inside the large nylon gear of the headlight actuator are bad. These bushings transfer the load from the large nylon gear to a 3-lobe casting on the shaft that raises or lowers the headlight bucket. I sell two headlight repair kits that consist of new Delrin bushings to replace the OEM hard gel bushings. The OEM bushings break down with age and use to a spoonfull of chunks. The kits are 209280 Deluxe Headlight Repair kit, ($20, repairs two headlights) and 207280 Headlight Repair kit, ($6.25, repairs one headlight). 209280 also includes 2 new side cover gasket and a motor gasket, screws & nuts (in case you snap your off) and a tube of grease.

I'm going to check the control module, I've actually repaired the motors using your kit Lon and it was a good kit, using a battery and just hitting the wires themselves, the headlights will go up and down as supposed to, just when they are manually raised and then the lights turned on, they go down and the lights stay on.
