The three wires in the plug are black grey and orange. Also there is a orange and an orange with a brown line on it that are cut that I though were for the radio and they are not any ideas? I also found the hatch problem. The acc fuse was blown as it had a 10 amp fuse in it and not a 20amp. The guy who owned this car really ragged it. Now I see why he sold it for $500.00.

I can't remember for sure, I wired my deck a while ago, but put a test light to that plug and turn on the headlights. I think that may have lit up the stock stereo at night.

It's not the light for the shift lever, is it?

also here is a break down of the factory radio wiring for all gm vehicles from 1978 - 1990.

| 3 4 | | 7 8 | | 11 12| | \_/ |

1. = yellow - 12 volt power
2.= pink - power antenna ( optional on some models)
3.=black - ground
4.= gray - illumination
5.= rt frt speakers negative - Dk.green
6.= Lt frt speakers negative - gray
7.= rt frt speakers positive - Lt.green
8.= Lt frt speakers positive - tan
9. = Lt rear speakers negative - yellow
10. = rt rear speakers negative - Lt.blue
11. = Lt rear speakers positive - brown
12. = rt rear speakers positive - Dk.blue
13.= station and clock memory - orange
14.= dimmer - brown

other than these wires the onlty other wires that should be under the console would be for the cig lighter, the shift indicator, and the power window switches.

hope this helps.

Re: Plug under the center console

1991 RS -- I had my center console out, and when I went to put it back in, I saw a black wire conduit that seemed to run to nothing. I see no plugs for it, and it comes out of the same harness as the window/hatch wires. The end is a round receiver. Any idea what this is?

I thought maybe it was a wire to the old radio, but it will barely pass the shifter. Any ideas??

A picture can be worth a thousand words.
Here is the wiring of an 85 TA with power windows but not power locks or mirrors. Birds and Camaros differ but perhaps it will help.

Re: Plug under the center console

Look to see if that might be the connector for the emergency (parking) brake switch?

It's the black conduit wire running to the shifter. Mine is manual, so I'm guessing that the wiring is there regardless? There is no receiver for it on my car.

Thanks for the response. Makes me feel a lot better about leaving it alone :P
