Stock gauges weird problem
I have a weird problem with my stock 91 Z28 gauges. I havent done any work to them lately or anything.
I was driving to work today when I glanced at my gauges. Volts: check... Gas: check... Temp: check.... Oil Pressure: uh oh! 5 psi!
I checked my oil, right on the money. (although a bit dirty) So I figured that my oil pump was going. I had horrible thoughts of tearing apart my engine... Its my daily driver, so I need to have it on the road. Well, I noticed that when I came to a sudden stop the oil pressure would dive down quickly.
Hmmm, isn't that what the fuel gauge is supposed to do? I stopped and filled up my tank, which was almost empty. Guess what? The oil pressure was past 60. For some reason my oil pressure gauge was reading exactally the same as my fuel gauge. Any ideas oh why this would happen? Like I said, I havent messed with the gauges recently at all...

When you say you haven't done anything to your gages recently, how recently is recently? Is it possible that this has been going on for awhile and you haven't noticed it?

On the connectors for the instrument panel, the wire for the fuel pressure gage is a purple wire and goes to pin "C4" of connector "C2". The wire for the oil pressure gage is a tan wire and goes to pin "C3" of connector "C2". The wires for the two gages are side by side on the same connector and may have gotten crossed or have something jumpering them inside the cluster.
