battery drain

okay, first i hooked up an amplifier for my stereo. I thought there may have been a bad internal circut in the amp. But anyways, it drained my battery, beyond the point of saving. Then i hooked up my fog lights. Drained the battery again. I followed all wiring instructions, hooking the positive leads to the positive battery terminal and grounding to wherever i found a suitable ground. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?????

Second, i would like to add an msd ignition to my setup but i don't know what will work. I have a HEI distributor with vaccum advance. Which systems will work for my car????

any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks,
CODY

Your amp may have shorted which could cause a draw. The only way to check for sure is to use an ammeter. As far as the fog lights go you need a switch somewhere. The way you describe the hookup, the light should always be on.

i have an inline switch for the fog lights, and i used an amneter to check for the draw and there isn't any when the car is off? yet the battery still dies. but when i disconnect them from the battery it doesn't die, even after sitting for a few days

make sure you're using the ammeter properly.. start at the highest setting for AMPS, then drop the scale down one at a time, and see if the needle moves

i used it properly. I just can't seem to figure it out, unless i had a bad ground somewhere on both the amp and fog lights. oh well, i've decided to take them both out anyways.

I still would like to know what ignition system people reccomend for me though. Engine info is in signature
