GTA electric seats

Hi everyone,

I've got some electric seats from an '88 or '89 (can't remember which) GTA that I want to fit into my '82 Trans Am. Can someone please give me information on what these seats need to make them work, such as a wiring diagram.

Thanks a million,

I'm pretty sure, all you need is to run a hot wire to it and ground out the black one. How many wires are on the connector and what colors?

Looking under one of the seats I see what appears to be a vacuum line (I don't see any wires in there and it seems to be a hose), and a 4 pin connector that has four wires to it. These are orange with black stripe, grey, white, and black with a white stripe.

Thanks

Does anyone have a manual for their car that has the wiring for electric seats that they could scan and send to me?

I don't fancy plugging in my new seats to some power only to find I've done it wrong and I cook something, making the seats useless.

So if anyone has something I'd be most grateful.

I can't find a diagram in the 82 - 92 Firebird Chilton's Manual for the power seats, but I did notice that where it talks about removing the power seat motor, it does not mention any vaccume lines. I can't think of why they would have one either.

Same thing for the 93 - 98 Camaro / Firebird Chilton's manual

I know that there is atleast one guy who has complete wiring diagrams listed on his website and has in in his signature, do a search and you should find it.

With thanks to Trickster for emailing me the diagram for Camaro electric seats, I've now discovered that my GTA seats are not as totally electric as I thought they were.

The two rocker buttons on the side of the seat control the lumbar and back support. It does this somehow by using vacuum from the engine as there is most definitely vacuum hosing under the seats. This probably draws air out of the seats or something when you want less support.

Either way, I'm still at a loss as to how wire these seats up. Has anyone removed GTA seats or something lately?

Nice car by the way. I looked up your profile. She's pretty, but the steering wheel is on the wrong side!? J/K lol it looks good man.

Sorry I couldn't be a better help,

No worries dude, thanks for your help anyway. I might have to rely on good ol' fashioned kiwi ingenuity to figure out the seats.

Thanks for the comments on the car.

I wanted to add to this. The GTA seats do not use vacuum, instead they use a pump to inflate bladders on the sides and in the lumbar support.

Awesome! This is just what I needed. The wiring on my seats is the same as in the thread you mentioned. If only I'd thought to search for the words "power seat" rather than "electric seat"!

Thanks to you and everyone who replied.

From what I can tell on my seats, the lumbar supports are just "bags" that inflate/deflate with air. Have you checked the fuse? My seats have a 10A fuse under the left hand seat.

Yep, USA drivers side, that's why I said left side. On the seats I have, the left seat also has the air pump and the fuse is the same type that you'd find in the fuse box under your dash.

FYI, we're allowed to drive left hand drive cars on our roads providing the car that's imported is 20 years old or more, or, you go and live in the country of origin for at least 3 months. If you import a car to NZ that's less than 20 years old and you haven't lived in the country of origin for 3 months of more, then you have to either convert the car over or you've just bought yourself a parts car or you can make it into a race car.

Re: GTA electric seats

[QUOTE=blackbeauty;1674326]With thanks to Trickster for emailing me the diagram for Camaro electric seats, I've now discovered that my GTA seats are not as totally electric as I thought they were.

needing ideas: I have '89 GTA SE with seat issues. following new carpet and seat coverings--seat controls for the lumbar system were not hooked back up. Do you have or know a place to see a diagram for the vacuum hoses ? and electrical? note: factory manuals do not have the complete vacuum hose routing in the base manual or the supplement manual for the car.
thanks for any help. Alan
