Help- no fuel pump
OK, I've been putting off this project for a long time now. My car has been sitting in my garage for about 6 mos, but now I have a day or two to dedicate to solving this electrical issue.
To make a long story short, a wire from the fuel pump relay was accidentally grounded(green wire). This caused the car to stall immeadiately.
I taped up the bare wire and did not get a fuel pump when the key was turned on. So I went over to the battery area and found 1 link that was basically melted. I cut it out and spliced the two wires together. Turned the key but still no fuel pump. I dropped the ECM out and did not see or smell anything so I assume the link did its job and protected the ECM.
I am going to the dealership today and getting a new fuel pump relay, for $18 its worth a shot. I can't let this car sit any longer, not only do I miss driving it, but its not good to just have it sit like that. ANY suggestions as to what I should be checking for to troubleshoot this are much appreaicated! The car cranks, but without a fuel pump.
Also, I've been reading through these threads, someone suggested that there is a 20 amp fuse by the battery that protects the ECM / fuel pump, but I do not see that, can someone post a pic showing its location? Thanks guys.

Will the car start when you let it crank for a long time? When you try to find this, look at the oil pressure gauge (assuming you have one), if it goes up to midrange and the engine then starts, you have either a bad relay, or (more probable) a dead ECM, since that green wire is the ECM signal wire.
Another thing you can do is check the fuses on the passenger side that are mounted to the frame in watertight connectors (these look like connectors for the TPS and others, but are screwed to the frame instead of something that is actually computer-controlled or sensed). One of them may be shot (probably the ECM/fuel pump fuse). And speaking of fuses, check the one in the main fuse panel labeled FP/INJ1. That one may be bad too.

On my 89 Iroc-Z, the 20 amp fuse is located next to the right hand side of the radiator just behind the headlight. In your picture, there is something kind of green colored below that bottom red wire that appears to be a fuse. However, that wiring job does not appear to be original so it is hard to tell.

You guys are both right. I fixed it today. It was the 20 amp fuse in that plastic housing bolted behind the headlight housing. I always thought that was a connector, not a housing for a fuse, till today. Replaced it and the fuel pump came on and I knew then I had found the problem. Thanks for the responses!
