Hey Tim, have you been getting the digest lately? I haven't received one in probably three days and that is pretty unusual when I usually get four to five digests a day - wonder if I got bumped...? Are you still getting emails from diy-efi?

I've been receiving the digest from diy-efi.

A wide band O2 (WB O2) sensor gives an accurate reading of the O2 content in the exhaust over a "wide band" range; A:F ratio = 10:1 to 20:1, for example, and is a useful tuning aid in that it gives you an idea of the A:F mixture ratio that was burned in the combustion chamber. The O2 sensors that are used in our f-bodies are the narrow band type (NB O2), which are only accurate at the stoichiometric A:F ratio, which is 14.7:1 for gasoline. Commercial WB O2 sensor systems typically cost thousands of dollars, so this system is a bargain with the parts, including the sensor, electronics, and PC board, priced on the order of $250 - if you are up to soldering components to a PC board. The voltage output of the circuit is not in the 0 - 1 volt range, as our narrow band sensors are, so some type of readout device or data logger is required. I'm buliding a 30 LED bargraph display as a direct real time readout and also a circuit that rescales the voltage output of the WB O2 circuit to the 0 - 1 volt range for the ECM O2 sensor input. It uses an electronic TPS controlled switch (mux) that allows the WB O2 sensor to be switched over to the ECMs O2 sensor input at WOT so that a scanner can be used to capture WB O2 data at WOT, while the NB O2 sensor is switched over to the ECMs O2 sensor input at part throttle so the ECM may use the NB O2 sensor in closed loop mode. Both circuits will be posted on the diy-efi.org projects board after I test their operation.
