Should we change our name?

A few people have mentioned this to me, that they think that "DIY PROM" doesn't adequately describe what we really do. Those that regularly read/post on this board know that "prom burning" is only a small part of what we are doing. In reality, we are tuning the EFI system. The prom burning is just a mechanical method of how we accomplish this.

I personally do NOT want to drop the "DIY PROM" part of the name, but maybe "DIY PROM and EFI TUNING" would be a better name for our board.

So please vote as to whether we should change the name or leave it as is. As I said, I don't want to loose the "DIY PROM" part, but maybe Tim and I will consider a a better name (if one is suggested).

Also, please post any comments why we should change the name or leave it the same.

I agree we should keep the DIY PROM part - but perhaps make it "DIY PROM TUNING" would describe it better. The burning is the easy part. The tuning is the important part. I dunno how to vote.

Anyone else?

If you mean "you don't know which way to vote", I can't help you there. If you mean "you don't know how to place a vote", you just click on the "radio button" beside the two choices and click the "Vote" button.

Well, i use the logic that. If a person doesnt know what prom burning is they dont have the necessity to burn proms. Though this as a fact is completely false, as we know the stock proms could benefit from a change. What im trying to say is If they have read any tech articles, on thie board or any other and want to improve the performance of their ride they should have a GENERAL idea of what a prom is. The first thing i did when visiting this website for the first time, before even touching the boards was read All of the Tech articles which we had.

I read them time and time again, understanding more and more each time i read them, yet still leaving a little unknown
I guess reading about proms is sort of in the natural progression of learning about our cars, thoug i do admit i tend to shy away from involving myself in this subject. I am afraid of the mighty prom

If you change the name the I think we should do it weekly.
Why bother?. If some one can't grasp it as it is, they shouldn't use devices that run on 110 anyway.

Sides I might not be able to find it again (Yes, I don't play with 110).

I agree with Grumpy. I you can't grasp the concept from DYI PROM then you don't need to burning PROMs. If the name doesn't give you a clue, when you come in and start reading the posts it gets quite clear what we are doing here. My $.02 worth.

You could keep it the same, or change it, but I don't think it matters that much. Most folks that have any clue about their EFI motor know it is computer controlled.

How about "Engine Tuning via Prom Burning"?

I think it depends on what this community would like to be. Put the word 'tuning' in the title and you'll begin to get all sorts of tuning questions that are more appropriate for the TPI board. I would leave the name the same ... or, possibly change it to 'DIY PROM Programming'.

Hmmm, close race - but the "DIY Prom" votes are winning.

Gee, I didn't think we had that many people that actively look at this board.

My guess would be that there are a fair number of folks that surf this board, but, do not post simply because they either 1.) don't yet have the materials to do it themselves. or 2.) they find answers to their questions. or 3.) They simply don't know what this is all about, and reading gives them a general idea.

I have been watching this board for quite some time now, and find if VERY imformative. I have not yet started burning my own proms yet, since I do not have the equipment. (and, with the economy such as it is..... not sure when I will have the financial ability to do so, but, it IS tax time...... heheheheheh)

Keep up the good work. Don't worry 'bout the name. Most folks that show up here will figger it out......

thanks again glen for the info!!!!I personaly like it the way it is
as traxion said,if you put tuning in the renaming I think you will
open a flood gate of very, very general tuning questions.

I just signed up to this message board not even a month ago. I joined because of the topic "DIY PROM". I have read and replied to threads that were about programming and some that were about tuning. I like the broad name that this message board carries. It is open to anything about PROMs....hardware, software, theory.........DIY PROM.

I'm happy that the masses have voted for "DIY-PROM"...

But only 44 votes??? There's only 44 people who care enough to vote???

Or is there only 44 people total reading this Forum???

Or do we have a "silent majority" who agree with the result and therefore don't need to vote???...

I wonder how many of the peeps who do read this Forum actually click on the links, or even go so far (*** forbid!) as to *buy* something from the sponsors???

...*Only* 44???...
