$32 to $6E after inj swap, idle diff huge

Well I did my south bay swap recently and removed AIR, EGR, CSI on my 88 TPI auto. I was using $32B before. I played with BPW tables, MAF Inj constants and although helped never seemed to stop run away hi idle and hunting. THis was before my swap, which I knew had vac leaks probably

so now taht I feel I am all buttoned up with no vac leaks, new gaskets up top, new injectors, egr, csi, air gone, car fired right up and sounded better and idle smoother, There was no hunting or not as much where before it woudl do 900 and creep up to 1200-1300 and drop again.

Now it improved on the $32B but still on crank it didnt catch as fast with CSI removed and sounded weak firing. It idled up to 1000-1100 now but sat solid at this RPM and sounded much better then before under hood and at exhaust. I could tell the fuel and spark are much better now and no hunting meant less vac leaks.

but idle was still high. I adjusted the IAC only once and timing is on along with TPS.

so for S&G I burned a stock ARAP with just the FAN NO unchecked, the EGR mat temp set to 300F and my injectors set to 19lbs for my 305.

it fired right up and idled the whole time at 650-700? and all the datalogging looked much more inline with what I expected with BLM/INT working in closed loop.

I was amazed and felt relieved to hear and see improvement after my injector swap and now $6e. I felt much more confident in the $6e tune and definition files.

So any clue why just $32 to $6e would lower and keep idle better?
other then the fan n/o unchecked, MAT for EGR do I have to adjust anything else for starters?

I have a lb9 305 so I heard the ARAP is too much timing for this car but what is better bin to copy over to spark vs load and what other tables should I change before I start driving to be safe?

Re: $32 to $6E after inj swap, idle diff huge

As Ref. Here was my first datalog with TP and the $6e.

you can see the Idle was solid and temps were just warming up but building to the 190 point.

My Monitor showed at idle cell 0 and 16 at 800RPM were getting around 144 and 130 BLM averages

the chart has a high BLM but the INT is at 130. So I think just a little lean. My Inj constant is high at 19.5 which I will lower to 18.2 since it is at 40psi not 43. and try again.

Other then spark tables, which there are several, will I expect similar results from a AUJP or ANYJ bins? I assume they are the same as the ARAP just less timing across the board for iron heads?

Re: $32 to $6E after inj swap, idle diff huge

FYI My O2 volatges cyled to closed loop after a few minutes but went open loop and and just steadily dropped to very lean before I shut it off. Like straight line drop.

That is why the BLM (orange) is 157 but the INT is still at 129.

I removed my AIR tubes but did not cap off the manifold port yet. So I assume that will make the o2 sensor read very lean as air comes into the exhaust like a leak?
It is uncapped on both sides.

Yes, need to cap them off.

Re: $32 to $6E after inj swap, idle diff huge

Yes it is hitting less then 100mv after a few minuets of run time. I assume that is the driver side cap being open and sucking clean air across the o2?

Otehrwise I am now on a APYM 89 305 BIN. I compared to the ARAP and looks similiar. Weird tough like the $32b it idles higher then the ARAP?

The injector constants def effected where it idled though. the higher the inj# the higher (leaner) the idle was I still have to readjust the IAC and TPS again. it seems to like my IAC adjusted first down to 550 where it is chugging or is that too low? Then I tweak the TPS until .57

There is about a 100-200rpm gap from the commanded to the actual.

also I removed the AIR but is there a table to 0 out like in $32B where I removed the 100mv adder?

Re: $32 to $6E after inj swap, idle diff huge

I will pinch the lines on each side since it is hard to cap the top part (the AIR was so worn it broke off at the threads.) That should stop 99% of the vac leak

I went thru the APYM VS ARAP and the spark is of course more aggressive but there were several non-spark tables like cold start, TCC delays, crank etc that were close but not exact. For the most part the ARAP # made more sense. They gave a little more gas at crank. and seemed to have better delays and TCC values in the scalers.

There were a few TEMP related items that I assume were due to alum heads and I left alone. And there were several non-linear gaps in tables in teh APYM that looked odd. IE might go 0, 1, 2, 3 in arap and it would go 0,1,.5,3 in the APYM I switched to the ARAP #

One thing I did notice and I think effected my idle. My base is at 5deg. (I tired moving the dizzy but it wouldn't budge by hand so I left alone for now) In ARAP I see that at 650RPM idle my timing sits at 20-21deg and idels smooth. On the APYM I was at 28-31!

so in the 48 cell at 800 rpm the ARAP was 20.5 and the APYM was 29.5! all other APYM numbers were lower. so I lowered the 800RPM cell in my APYM to 21.5 and the few cells around it too 21.5

I will reset the IAC TPS pinch the AIR lines and try again. I think that should help me idle at 650-750 with good BLM

if all is good I think it is ready to drive. I just really need a set of echaust/ypipe,headers now to clean up AIR and remove. Thinking DynoDon or Hooker.

Yes there is. If you zero it be sure to subtract the same value from the three O2 window tables.

Re: $32 to $6E after inj swap, idle diff huge

Thanks Rob, I am using $6E ext and I do not see any where to zero, what address?

and which tables in $6e? I did search hear but all the links are for $32B which is easy. You just 0 the Mv Scaler to 0 and then nothing gets subtracted.

Re: $32 to $6E after inj swap, idle diff huge

Rob well I pinched the AIR tubes and my new breather tube was broken on the TB so that was a huge vac leak. So using the APYM I backed down the idle spark in the 16-20 range. and after a few IAC adjustments the car goes into CL after warm quickly and idles at 650 easily and sounds good. My speedo cable is now not turning the speedo so I think some shifts will be off but after a quick spin it was night and day from the $32b.

So my mod'd APYM to the 305LB9 and egr air csi removed seems ot be good, it fires up quickly and with the 180 stat I seem to be sitting at 198F after 20 minutes.

So I will attach my knock, blm and history graph. I am using 18.5 as inj constant but at idle you can see all my BLM/Knocks are at idle. In the the graph the top light blue lines BLM, the middle is the LV8 and the bottom is RPM. You can see at idle it peaks up to 150 and gets the knocks, then on the gas at LV8 in the 112+ it drops to 133. The knocks counts show this as well all the knocks are in the idle with a 1-5 knocks in the upper LV8.

I am lean across the board about 6 BLM and another 10 BLM lean at idle. Also I had no Kncok Retards in the ECM. I had 1 small retard at 178LV8 and 2200 rpm at -2 and another at LV8132 at 1900rpm of -.69

I am thinking before I mess with the spark I should get fuel since it is probably just lean. the o2 swings look normal I see massive up/down on the graph across all RPM now. I had 200+ cross counts in the 5 min run and the IAC is at 0-5 counts at 650 RPM at idle so the idle seems ok now too.

Re: $32 to $6E after inj swap, idle diff huge

I am thinking: drop the Injector constant to 17.8 to account for the 133/128 BLM differance

then tweak table MAF#1 and lower the g/s values at idle

Then what is next for upper LV8? also will more timing help the lean condition? IE: the ARAP had the idle at 20deg and lowered it to 16 deg can that cause the lean as well?

is there BPW vs load like in the $32B for controlling idle PW?

jjcuff, how did you make/get those history tables? my adx file doesn't have them

Tuning for rich and lean conditions in $6e is done via the MAF tables and/or scalars.
BLM < 128, decrease gm/sec
BLM > 128, increase gm/sec

be absolutely sure you have NO misfires, NO exhaust leaks, NO vacuum leaks.
Boostleak and leakdown tests will tell you if you have any leaks anywhere except exhaust.
